i doubt alot of you have read this book, but it is my favorite book of all time. but that is not the news, the news is the fact the ORson Scott Card (the author of EG) is writing a screenplay for it, and Wolganga Peterson is planning on directing it (the dude who did the Never-Ending Stories).
i think this is huge news.
basically the premise for the book is. that Earth has been attacked by aliens twice. We barely survived these encounters. And in order to be prepared for another attack the terran gov'ts decided to start training young promisng soldiers at a very young age......6. But the training procedures are presented unsurpirsingly in the form of games. Ender is the most pormising child the governments have enocuntered. The only question is whther or not he is good enough to protect the planet.
this book is the best writing since Shakespeare. If u get a chance trust me and read this book i promise u wont be dissappointed.

I think everyone's read Ender's Game. It's been around for over 25 years. One of the true classics of science fiction, and has been ripped off so many freakin times by so many movies, I'm surprised that Card is doing a screenplay

i thought that too. but i was wrong. the sequels are different. they are slower paced not nearly as much action. its ender when hes like 35 yrs old, so it has to be different. but i liked them too.
but there is another book not quite in the Ender's Series, its called Ender's SHadow. It's all about Bean. And its is equally if not better than Ender's Game. I like Ender's Game more because i identified with Ender alot. and no not cuz he was a genius, but because he lost everything that mattered to him at point in his life.

I loved Enders game - truly one of the all time greatest novels. I worry about taking a classic and trying to cast it in the theater...odds are in favor of a disaster. And who is this bozo directing? All the "good" directors busy that week?
I too was intimidated away from the sequels by their complexity. Never read them, but someone above mentioned Enders Shadow and i may try that.
In case you want to read another classic sci-fi book. Also 20 yrs old, overlooked and simply brilliant, its called Leige Killer by Christopher Hinz. I simply cannot recommend this book enough.

But this isn't new news either. OSC has been working on this at least 5 years. Check out his website. hatrackriver.com

the sequels werent better/worse, but definately changed the story. When you later find out that he actually wanted to write the whole story, and Ender's Game had to be written as a lead in, it also changes how you react to the book. The book does stand on it's own though. Very powerful/moving. Hopefully it wont be made into a happy meal toy type of tripe we've been subjected to, as this is a very dark story. I'm not sure that the 1 book can be conveyed in 1 movie (maybe a scifi network 6 hour miniseries would be more appropriate).

The Ender Saga is among the greatest science fiction stories ever. The series includes:
Enders game
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
Ender's Shadow
Shadow of the Hegemon
There may be another one or two but I can't remember the titles. Fantastic classic science fiction. I love OS Card's science fiction, but am not a big fan of his fantasy works.

yes king u 4got only one, the newest one, Shadow of the Hegemon. and it was great, it was probably the final book in the Bean series, but Orson said he was going to allow other authors to start to write companion novels, similar to Bean's, about other students at Battle School.

No, he didn't. He forgot Shadow Puppets.
And originally, it was supposed to be called Shadow of the Valley of Death, which makes one speculate that there may be one more Bean book coming.

Just because he did away with his nemesis means he did away with all conflict in his life. There are still issues open, like his disease and his children.

tru i should better than to underestimate Mr. Card. he has yet to fuck the Ender series, and i cant name alot of authors who have sequels that can stand up to the original....

I have a collection of his short stories. They're very good. I recommend Unaccompanied Sonata.

I'll have to check these other books out. I read Ender's Game and it's one of my favorite books of all time. It's my favorite science fiction book too.
I read Ender's Shadow and thought it was excellent, though not quite as good as Ender's Game.

Orson Scott Card comes into my store all the time and seems like a pretty nice guy. He likes talking to people that recognize him and I've never seen him pull the, "I'm a famous AW-THOR"-schtick. I've never read his books, but the "Ender" series are now in btoh the "adult" section and the kids section. Same book, different covers, the kids' version being MUCH more expenisve and the one that always ends up on school reading lists. Hmmmmm...
And he often signs his books without asking us first. That's not cool.

Last I heard "Scott" was living in North Carolina; has he moved, or did he get another home(?), I wonder.
A really nice guy - very down to earth; he taught at my old university years and years ago, and was very helpful in getting a friend of mine published.
Every author should wish they have at least one masterpiece, like ENDERS GAME, in them.
