This might sound strange but cold water. Either stand in the shower and let it hit the back of your neck, or just standing in the cold water helps. Supposedly it widens the arteries and helps blood flow better. Sometimes it only works temorarily. But any relief is good. If that dosen't work, then try the sledgehammer.

I have a friend who discovered that her lifelong headaches were caused by - sleep apnea. She didn't discover she had it until she got married and her snores woke her husband up every night.

Now she's had some major surgery done (I'll spare you the gory details) and is much much better.
