Let me say this: "good" is a subjective term when referring to Rage Against The Machine.

The Clash are THE ultimate politcal/social rock band, and damn near the best rock band EVER.

Fugazi's also a great band to check out.

To make you understand the value of a man?

I wasn't too sure if we were talking about recnt bands or bands of the past but The Funk, the 5, The Stooges and so many more had an awesome political agenda.

Not it is time for me to be smacked but I have never heard a single song by Fugazi. They were always there staring me in the face but I just never bought any. The same with a few others as well.

Actualy, I did hear a Fugazi song on the radio (college) the other week and I must say it was damn good. I need to get some.

Other old political bands of note:
-DRI (still going)
-Nuclear Assault (still going too)
-Black Flag
-Leatherface
-Fuel (the old one)

Again, there are just SO MANY to mention here.

Alright fluff, here's where you need to go for Fugazi 101, albums-wise...

Start with the first two, "13 Songs" and "Repeater + 3 Songs". Then "Steady Diet of Nothing". Then jump all the way to their latest, 2001's "The Argument" (Which has become my favorite album of theirs by FAR)...then go back and grab "End Hits" and "The Instrument Soundtrack". "Red Medicine" and "In On The Kill Taker" are for Fugazi die hards ONLY.

And definitely check out the documentary on them, "Instrument". Easily one of the best musical documentaries out there, period.

...because I love what you could call the by-products of Fugazi like Jawbreaker, Fuel, Hot Water Music and even on the Rites Of Spring side (also whom I have not heard) who spawned a whole bunch of other bands too. I have not heard them so I don't know exactly.

I always hate jumping on board and not necessarily jumpin gon the bandwagon but becoming a fan so long after a band has been together. Jawbreaker was that band last year and DAMN did I miss out.

EDIT: The song I heard the other week was proclaimed as their "staple" song. What was that?

..."In On The Kill Taker" are for Fugazi die hards ONLYreally? i never considered myself a die hard fan, yet i love in on the kill taker. hmmm i'll need to reevaluate

everything that i was thinking has already been mentioned, so i'll just concur strongly on the clash, fugazi, propagandhi

Staple song? Probably either "Waiting Room", "Repeater" or "Shut The Door". All Ian-fronted songs...personally, I prefer it when Guy takes the lead, though "Shut The Door" is my absolute end-all-be-all Fugazi song.

And I love "...Kill Taker", but it seems to be the one that sounds the least like the "Fugazi sound". It's very experimental and abstract and brutal as fuck. Great, great album, but might really turn off casual fans...

The bands/musicians that immediately come to mid are:

The Clash (of course).
The Dead Kennedy's (Jello Biafra came in #3 when he ran for mayor of San Francisco and is very politically active and very smart).
Bad Religion (Greg G. can be very political lyrically).
Public Enemy
Frank Zappa (RIP)
Billy Bragg
U2

What type of genre is fugazi?

Because if it's anything even remotely close to hip hop or funk, I am so NOT listening to it.

I just question, because it's odd to hear someone say that Fuel was influenced by fugazi.

I knew that was gonna get mentioned. Fuel was a really good band that came out of San Francisco in the late 80's early 90's. They broke up after a few years but i thought they were awesome. Their full discography was re-released on Brokin Rekids a few years back. It was their full length called Monuments To Excess which was the album of the same name and their 7 inch which came out on Lookout.

I know there is another Fuel but I would hardly refer to that as relevant.

How the HELL did I miss Good Riddance? They are so very politically charged.
