I'm afraid that it might not be that good.

I heard they wrote and edited their 1st disc for like 4 years. They definitly didn't have that much time for the follow up.

I'll buy it anyway. I love the Park.

I have some pretty high expectations for this CD after Hybrid Theory.

Linkin Park is a band that I always try to defend. They get a bad wrap because their CD sold 8 million copies and their music was so widely played on radio so people just assume they're another rap/metal band.

They write great lyrics, they direct their own videos, they create the artwork for their CD's, they handle their finances, they dont whore themselves out to the pop industry, etc.

I love the first single and I hope the rest of the CD is just as good.

Hybrid Theory was realeased about 2 years ago. It took a little while to catch on. I heard that they wrote about 80 songs on the follow up tour to HT. March 25th, Meteora.

no one in history has ever milked an album more than linkin park. that album was on videos and mtv and the radio for fucking ever. and what's the next album they make after milking that one? a fucking remix of that other album. ridiculous.

i wont' try to bash these guys too bad because there seems to be some fans so to each his own or whatever but their new album will be horrible. that first single is awful, i thought it was a joke at first. you would think they would want to expand on their sound or try something different but i guess they are goign for the same old formula that gained them millions, can't blame them.

but they are truly awful.

I like the DJ, their production is alright, and the weird blonde midget sounds pretty cool (Even though he's named "Chester"...FAG)...but why do their songs still give face time to that fake-ass wannabe MC? I'm suprised so many people here dont dig on Linkin Park. I mean;
They really don't sound like anyone else. A couple of bands have ripped them off...but LP is/was unique.
The production is absolutely flawless. Very studio heavy... but it still sounds like a band.
They write & play all their own shit, which is more than alot of other bands that reach that level of success.

As for the "milking" their own record. They really aren't to "blame" for that. They put out a strong album that built up some nice momentum. The last time this happened.... might've been with HYSTERIA. That album had a nice long slow-grow and it turned out to be one of the most successful records of all time.

Personally, I respect that LP is doing their own thing. They don't sing about the usual shit (girls..... heartbreak.... parents "holding them down" etc).

Having said that; I don't have their new record yet. I don't know if they gotten any better or worse. Hope they explode all over again!

true dat. I don't like em just cause they have a guy who's only job in the band is to shout one line of the song apparently. Maybe he does other stuff, but all i see him doing is shouting "SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKIN' TO YOU". And plus they just seem to have a sucky aura about them, like i'm supposed to think they suck.

Well, Linkin Park is definately an aquired taste. I think a lot of people here are like the near 30 year old guys who claim heavy metal as their only love.

It's hard to love something so hybrid, but it's what you have to look forward to. Music has to evolve to reflect the culture. Artists gotta experiment with new flows.

I really like Linkin Park, and I heard all of the songs from Meteora on K-rock. As a fan, I say it's worth buying. I don't buy shit that sucks for half an hour. Meteora has at least 4 or 5 kick ass songs, and I say that's good enough for me.

I bought Hybrid Theory I admit. It was O K but NOTHING that fucking special. If anything, I got it to try and further understand my ex-girlfriend who had bulemia and had some serious stuff going on. She lived and will probably die by that record.

They really don't sound like anyone else. A couple of bands have ripped them off...but LP is/was unique.

So they don't sound ANYTHING like the bands who fused guitar riffs, programming and industrial elements with the self degrading lyrics of the industrio-gothic scene of the mid to late 80's and early 90's. It just comes across like watered down KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Sisters of Mercy and Jesus and Mary Chain mixed together with what Korn and Limp Bizkit established in the mid 90's? OK fine. I just think like noahfex said, bands like these getting popular make me lose faith in what is being brought across as "rock" these days. I guess the really good and talented band should be left for those who avoid the top 40 like a plauge becasue most the time reasons stuff like this gets oplular is becasue of some bigwig paying a lot of money to your MTV's and radio because they can be "marketed well".

I'll stick with the underground becasue there is at least a lot of talent and heart lying within that.

As for the "milking" their own record. They really aren't to "blame" for that. They put out a strong album that built up some nice momentum. The last time this happened.... might've been with HYSTERIA. That album had a nice long slow-grow and it turned out to be one of the most successful records of all time.

Granted Def Leppard are truly a shadow of their former self and Hysteria was a shadow of On Through the Night and High & Dry, Hysteria was a really good fucking record. Yes, they had singles off of that but they didn't go and repackage the same album as another whole entity proclaiming it to be "new" "remixed" and "fresh". Please.

Furthermore, the single out now "somewhere I Belong" sound almost identical to the stuff on the last record. Formula? The only noticable difference I see is Chester has his head shaved closer and Shinobi has another line or two to scream out. I think the one guys headphones have gotten BIGGER too. I wondering what he is listening to while he is playing?

Furthermore Part II: How many bands in the last 6 months have INCLUDED a FREE DVD in with their albums. Queens, Donnas, Foo, Sum and others which I have not bought but have seen. Linkin Park has the regular Meteora CD and THEN the CD with DVD for about 8 bucks more. Is this to:

Inflate the actual sales of the albums because collector geeks will want BOTH versions?
Put more money in their pockets?
Just completely blow their wad while they are still relevant.

I should have stuck with my gut feeling on them when they first came out.

Nu Metal BOY BAND!

Never have I liked Linkin Park. And judging from this <a href=http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/col/jfarber/>Daily News<a> columnist, Jim Farber , I have a good feeling he's right. My favorite quote from his artical <i>"Each cut finds the group crooning, rapping and shouting in nearly the same order and ratio. It's as if they were following some unquestioned edict: Sing, rhyme, yell, repeat. "</i> However he seems to be the only who dislikes this album from all the NY columnists so maybe 2 out of 3 cant be wrong.

fluffernutter, I feel that if someone has NO TALENT, they wouldn't even get this far. You can't go anywhere in the mainstream world without talent.

And what I think you're doing is basically commenting on the sound and not the lyrics. The lyrics aren't incredibly deep, but it's good poetry.

And yes, Linkin Park sounds like a hybrid of bands you've heard before; but how can you eventually create your own style if you don't learn from other people.

I think some of you are too old or distant from nu-metal (or rap/rock or whatever the hell it's called) to like it. If you think rap is garbage and you don't know what a turntable looks like, don't bother listening to Linkin Park.

One more thing: The reason Linkin Park's CD is coming with DVD extras (a move that most record companies are doing) is

4. They want our undivided attention. People are downloading whole albums off the net, and corporations want every dime to go to them.

Why blame artists for DVD/CD packages being sold? It's the labels that do it.

I agree that alot of the people who dislike LP simply don't like the genre, and therefore, they simply can't wrap their brains around that fact that LP is the best at what they do.

EX:
I truly dislike Professional Wrestling. I don't "get it", therefore..... the "Best" wrestler simply doesn't impress me. Period.

Linkin Park is better than alot of other NuMetal bands because their songs have hooks. Their songs actually GO like something. Sonically, there isn't really another band on their level. They don't wear masks or silly ass make-up. The whole thing seems pretty authentic to me.

Anyone who automatically hates something simply because it's on the radio or Mtv is too busy making their own little statement to really be listening.

I feel that if someone has NO TALENT, they wouldn't even get this far. You can't go anywhere in the mainstream world without talent.

I didn't really say that LP had no talent per se but but from an article I read in the Aquarian 3 years ago said that in the 5 years they were together before Hybrid Theory they were very different and had compromised their sound to get the major label deal. Something just strikes me as being a bit fishy when they have had little to nothing floating around in the indie record stores and then all of a sudden just come the hell out of nowhere and land in the Top 40.

but how can you eventually create your own style if you don't learn from other people.

TRUE! Very TRUE! But take what you have had as influences and GROW. Grow musically. The stuff I have heard off of Meteora just sounds like Hybrid Theory part II and that basically what Re-Animation was.

Metallica wouldn't have been themselves if it were not for the likes of being influenced by Venom and Diamond head. Kill 'em All sounded like the afforementioned bands but when Ride The Lightning came out it showed how they grew by leaps and bounds. Same with Nirvana. They wouldn't have been themselves if it were not for the likes of being influenced by The Melvins and Mudhoney. Bleach sounded like the afforementioned bands but when Nevermind and then further on with In Utero (an even bigger step forward) it showed how they grew by leaps and bounds.

I think some of you are too old or distant from nu-metal (or rap/rock or whatever the hell it's called) to like it. If you think rap is garbage and you don't know what a turntable looks like, don't bother listening to Linkin Park.

Too old, NO! When the "n metal" began with the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit and the Deftones, I was ALL over it. But as we now see the third wave of it, it becomes saturated and tired and weak much like the metal scene of the late 80's early 90's and then something (Nirvana/Pearl Jam) comes along and kills the scene dead. I am still waiting for that to happen and mark my words something will break the monotany of n metal that has been flodding the airwaves recently.

I love the rap/metal crossover but it has been done already and it just needs some originallity. Faith No More? Early RHCP? Downset? Orange 9mm? Anthrax/PE? There are so many that came before but the lustre has been lost for me at least.

I listen to practically everything on my turntable(s). I respect what can be done as DJ's totally amaze me. My turntable is currently cradling the Grabass Charlestons, SNFU and the Reversal Of Man/CombatWoundedVeteran split.

Apples & Oranges! Those two bands have NOTHING to do w/ each other. LP isn't even attempting to play the same game as RAGE. LP are writing MELODIC songs with hooks and choruses. They have backing vocals. Harmonies. Advanced production techniques. Loops. Samples.

RAGE is doing much rawer, harder stuff. Their meaning & delivery is straight up riff-rock!

I can't believe that people are actually putting the two bands in the same thread! Why? Because there is some simple rapping in both bands music?
Not the same ballpark. Not even the same friggin' sport!!

Apples & Oranges! Those two bands have NOTHING to do w/ each other.

absolutely. one's a glorified pop band and the other's a legitimate rock band with a lead who can actually rap. when you do an episode of Cribs AND Making the Video where you're all corny and shit thinking its funny or entertaining, you've become a pop band.

nobody will talk about linkin park in 10 years the way people talk about Rage or any good band now. the same goes for fred durst and anyone he's come in contact with.
