When i think of sports, I think of Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey and other sports that require some sort of physical exertion such as tennis, track and field and swimming.

I do not consider golf, bowling, billiards and other non physical games as sports. I admit that these games require some sort of skill, but come on, would you really consider some 350 pound guy with a beerbelly rolling a ball down the alley or a 65 year old retiree on the PGA seniors tour an athlete?

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

So anything which requires physical exertion is a sport?

Then I'm an athlete! For my last shit really wore me out. It fought valiantly, but I won. Hooray for Zoidberg!

Driving a golf ball 200-300 yards is not a physical activity? It's like hitting a baseball.

However, I would argue that NASCAR is not a sport.

Walking for several miles, up and down hills, through woods (like I do when I play) is a physical activity. It may not be a contact sport (though I have hit several people with errant shots...heh heh) but it is still a competitive, athletic game. Especially if you don't drive around in a golf cart with a cigar in your mouth and a cooler of beers in the back with your clubs. Though to tell the truth, that is the most fun way to play.

However, I would argue that NASCAR is not a sport.

I agree.

I swing a hammer all day, have many varied skills, often tote heavy loads and do rather dangerous things at work, often in competition with other carpenters, so could carpentry be a sport?

buddy boy are you wrong... say the average golf course is 6000yds.. that is 18024feet which is just about 3.5 miles of walking.. which only counting the yardage from green to hole and not all the side to side walking you might have to do.. then throw in the swinging of the clubs.... come on man it is a sport and a tiring one at that....
