I always find it amazing when bi-partisan problems in Congress takes place. Obviously throughout US history the parties argue and have conflict in great depths and with sometimes hatred. But it seems more so in our lifetime (I'm 26), that these bipartisan conflicts could be causing more problems and prohibiting greater achievement of policy and outcomes.

What does everyone think about this?

Also note, Let's not turn this into a "my party is better then your party" argument.

When Clinton bombed Iraq in 1998 the same democrats who are opposing Bush now supported Clinton and the same republicans who support Bush were attacking Clinton. It makes me fucking sick. Nobody has a real position.

A lot of Reps. and Sens. who retired over the last few years said they did so because the partisanship has gotten so much worse in Congress.

I would say that the media is partly to blame for this. By that I mean that the advent of C-SPAN and 24 hour news has given Members of Congress a lot more face time to promote their agendas and help their careers. The first example may have been the Newt Gingrich-Tip O'Neill fight on C-SPAN back in the mid-80s. Speaker O'Neill reprimanded Gingrich but he became a household name and the real leader of the House Republicans.

Both sides pretty much just get their press and election numbers by participating in what basically amounts to name-calling and finger-pointing by old white men in suits. It's getting a little ridiculous, we need some new parties to start mixing things up...

It's so sad how both parties just sit on the fence as well with so many issues and just blame all the problems on the other party rather then trying to just work towards soultions. It really is becoming an x-factor in policy and outcomes.
