Wrestling over the past 20 years has gone through cycles. In 1984 Hulk Hogan brought wrestling from a sport that was mainly watched by guys older than 50 and made wrestling a part of american culture. Between 1985 thru 1990, wrestling was shown more on tv, Supercards such as wrestlemania were born and Pay per views became popular. Hogan, whether u like him or hate him helped wrestling become mainstream.

After about 1991 wrestling started a decline Especially when Hogan testified against McMahon and 3 years later defected to WCW.

Wrestling gained popularity again around 95-96 with the start of the monday night ratings wars between Raw and Nitro, and When Hogan turned Heel and Joined the NWO wrestling gained huge popularity again.

I believe it peaked at Wrestlemania 17 and slowly started to decline again due to the acquisition of WCW and virtually no competition.

In my opinion, there needs to be more wrestling from other federations on tv such as XPW and NWA TNA. Weekly pay per views by TNA arent enough. With nothing but WWE on TV especially in big markets like the NYC Metro area, we are forced to see only WWE. If XPW or TNA get a TV deal with a cable network, then the interest in wrestling will go up again

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black
