I've heard this on BBC, Fox and CNN. It seems a large troop helicopter went down in Kuwait, away from the fighting. It was mechanical failure.

There were 12 US troops and 4 British troops onboard.

We all knew this would happen, and all we can do is send our best wishes and prayers to their families. They gave the ultimate sacrifice for our safety.

i understand helicopters are a great tactical vehicle/weapon in war but to me there are too many accidents...

my cousin went down in a Navy helicopter off the coast of Maryland and left behind 2 children...
our company helicopter went down in the east river...
several weeks back a Black Hawk crashed in the mountains...

to die by an accident or friendly fire in war really bugs me...

FUNKMAN is 100% right - I have friends who work for the NTSB here in Washington,
and they always say that as long as they keep building helecopters, they will be in
business.

In any event, this is just the worst news on what has already been one of the most
depressing days. I feel very bad for their families.

Are you always depressed when our military does it's job well?

"Are you always depressed when our military does it's job well?"

I know you have a bias about me, you retarded, bloated GOP tool, and would like to
believe everything is so black and white about people who feel certain ways about the
war (not to mention the world at large), but was I so obtuse for you to understand
that I could both be proud of the men and women serving over there, yet bummed
because they died?

WOW! What a radical concept.

I'm not bloated...

Listen c-dub, I don't know who the fuck you THINK you're talking to, but if you're just going to resort to name calling EVERYTIME we talk politics, do me a favor and hang yourself.

If you want to talk like a ADULT with the big boys, you come down out of your room when you think you're ready.

Moey - Sorry I resorted to name calling (ONCE, by the way, not ALL THE TIME), simply
because you took my message about the National Transportation Safety Board /
Helecopters / my sympathy to the families of those killed - and then tried to use it
against me.

Yeah - I'm really the one who can't "talk like an adult."

To clear the air here...
It's actually 12 UK soldiers and 4 American soldiers that died. The reports were coming in so fast that they coludn't get the facts straight.
I'd really rather news agencies not scramble for news, and use more professionalism and patience.
We owe these soldiers a moment of silence, and a prayer.
We also owe more appreciation to Blair for hanging in with us also.

The misinformation is, at times, going to help and hurt us during this war. At times it
will play into the Pentagon's favor, when they try to spread rumors of having captured
or killed Saddam when they are trying to smoke out the Iraqis, and then there are
these stories.

On a slightly unrelated note, but still sort of touching on what you said - the scramble
for news caused CBS and Dan Rathered to be "Baba Booeyed" again today during the
news by Captain Janks. Unreal.

Ok c-dub. I can take a joke, and even a few insults in good faith. I think we're all just very sad about this news, no matter if you were for or against military action.

If these were the ONLY men and women to die, the action will be an OVERWHELMING success, but we still grieve the 16. It's 16 too many, and it could have been avoided if Saddam had just obeyed the UN. This blood, and the HUNDERDS of THOUSANDS of his own people's boold are on his hands, and the hands of his sons and close party members.

Bergalad...Moe..I said what I did due to the fact of Moe replying to a post regarding troops dying. Moe said "do you always get depressed when troops do their job well".

We're talking about troops that died!! You are an idiot for posting about a story in which US troops died and then saying something derogatory/demeaning towards them.
