View Full Version : Queens of the Stoneage question
Is there a fulltime drummer? Or is Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters there temp drummer? I know he did all but one track on the last album. I read up on the band and it says nothing about the original drummer Alfredo Hernandez leaving the band

i believe his appearance on this album was that of a guest appearance. everything i've read says that he's still a full fledged foo fighter still.

As I understand it, the permanant band is only the bassist and guitarist. Vocals and drums are taken care of by whatever industry buddy they can coral for that album. Dave Grol on Songs for the Death is most definitely a one shot, although he did have the time on his schedule to do some tour dates with them.

The Queens have NEVER had a fulltime drummer. But they claim that the current drummer (Don't know the name, but the guy is a BEAST) as well as the other guitarist, the guy from A Perfect Circle, are both now permanent members for the time being. Mark Lanegan is also an "honorary" fulltime member...

I think Dave Grohl is the current drummer. Like I said he idd All but one othe the tracks on the last album according to Rolling Stone, and he is beast when it comes to the drums. This is what I got of the biography on Rollingstone.com <p>"The descendents of legendary stoner-metal band Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age are led by singer/guitarist Josh Homme. As the principal songwriter in Kyuss, Homme fashioned the Sabbath-heavy riffs that created the desert acid-rock sound and propelled the band into cult status. Following Kyuss' break-up in late 1995, Homme relocated from Palm Desert, Calif., to Seattle and spent two years touring with the Screaming Trees. He also produced a series of Desert Session albums for Man's Ruin Records that featured a cast of collaborating musicians including former Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepard.
In 1997 he formed Queens of the Stone Age with former Kyuss drummer Alfredo Hernandez and debuted on a split EP later that year. Truly a transitional work, the EP featured three Kyuss B-sides and three new tracks from QOTSA. Nick Oliveri, another veteran of Kyuss, joined the band on bass in early 1998.
Queens of the Stone Age released their self-titled debut album in late 1998 on Loosegroove Records. Homme financed the album, and its reception was overwhelming. Critics hailed the QOTSA as one of the most important hard and heavy bands on the music scene. The following year, the band was signed by Interscope, who released their sophomore effort, Rated R, in 2000.
For their next outing, QOTSA hooked up with Foo Fighter frontman Dave Grohl (who drummed on all but one track), former Screaming Tree Mark Lanegan and Dean Ween (Ween) for 2002's Songs for the Deaf. The record, with its breakout single, "No One Knows," landed on many year-end critic's top-ten lists and brought the band more commercial success than ever before. Grohl soon exited to rejoin the Foo Fighters, thereby continuing QOTSA's long-standing revolving-door tradition."

No, he only recorded with them and toured with them on the initial multi-week mini-tour. He's now no longer touring or recording with them, and they've had a new drummer for the last couple of months now, who they claim is the new "permanent" drummer...at least for now. But it is most definitely NOT Grohl. I saw this guy the last two times I saw them live, and he's about twice his size, looks like Stalin with a shaved head, and is covered in tattoos. Like I said...BEAST.

I might be wrong...I remember someone saying he was the "multi-instrumentalist" from A Perfect Circle...but I've also heard that they've played with the guy from Ween in the past...so maybe it's him.
But this doesn't mean that A Perfect Circle is over. People CAN play in more than one band...and Zwan is pretty friggin' awesome.

All the members from APC are in various other bands but yes, Billy Howerdel is the multi-instrumentalist.
APC supposedly has another album coming out, it was originally slated for a November release but maybe somehting came up with conflicting touring schedules(Tool was on tour, maybe Maynard's vocals couldnt be layed down on some tracks)
As for Zwan....i appreciate Billy Corgans early music but now, i dont know i kinda think hes had his 15 minutes.
