I'm sure the Horde King can give the best answer. I would just have to say it makes you feel rejected and unappreciated. Sometimes it's just a matter of seniority and not who are the best workers.

If you worked hard and cared about your job, than you have nothing to be ashamed of.

I wish you the Best Of Luck in finding a new one!

Feeling awful means you're a member of the human race. It means you're normal.

If your employer did you wrong, mentally forgive them and move on. Dwelling on what they did wrong to you just gives them power over you.

If you're feeling guilty about something, I would suggest you forgive yourself and move on.

Either way, forgiveness is your key to feeling better.

On another note, everything happens for a reason. A better opportunity will present itself soon, and when it does, you will say "thank God I lost that job!"

I wish you all the best.

Mr. Corleone is Johnny's Godfather. To the Italian people, that is a very religious, sacred, close relationship.

Last year, I retired from my city job. Now, I know it's not the same as being fired or laid off, but after the amount of years I had put in, it was like a part of me had died. Most of my working life was spent doing what I had done for the city. I had to learn that my job wasn't me-in other words, My job was my identity for all of my adult life and I had to learn that that wasn't so. So I went out and started a new career and I lived happily ever after!! The End.

Thnx for the input and encouragement. I've learned to deal with and take into stride loosing a job, but this one hurt me the most since I thought I was onto something. I thought I had my foot in the door of a career for life.

NJB, don't despair. I was fired last May or so, and since August I've been working for myself, and doing better than ever. I'm very lucky that what happened, happened, because I'd never have had the courage to go to work for myself otherwise.

That is just one instance, of course, and it may not work out in the end. But it just goes to show that with prayer, humility, and just a little stick-to-it-tiveness, you can make the best of a bad situation.

A couple of practical tips: I know I was very depressed after I was fired, and it may help you to see a therapist for a while. I know it did me.

If you are eligible for unemployment, by all means file for it. You paid for it, you earned it.

Finally, don't try to take on the impossible in getting back on your feet. Take baby steps, just one or two or three every day, to help you find work and take care of yourself.

Good luck.

NJB - We sometimes feel badly after losing a job b/c we internalize the loss. It represents to you, not just a loss of a job, but a loss of acceptance and self-esteem.

This is particularly true since you felt this job was special, a career path even.

There are many reasons people get fired. Most have nothing to do with job performance. Remember the entire country is in a lousy economic time now.

Although this particular job in this field didn't work out, try not to let it discourage you. Look for another job in the same field and pursue whatever other avenues of opportunity are available to you, such as returning to school.

This is a temporary setback, not a life-changing event.

I was fired from a job about 1 year ago, and that was one of the happiest days of my life. I felt so much better after walking out of the doors. Losing a job is not the end of anything, but just an opportunity for a new beginning in something more enjoyable in life.

My company was just taken over today, so I feel a little on edge myself. No matter how much management tries to tell me it's a good thing, I still think I'm fucked.
