Tonight are the Oscars - and i admit, i look forward to and enjoy watching.
What im afraid of - is every single self righteous, self important mouthpiece getting up there and mentioning the war in both pro and anti war comments.

The "live" show should be delayed 2 minutes and an announcement should be made to NOT talk about the war.
the Host should mention it at the begining, and then say " lets refrain from mentioning it and get on with the business of acknowledging the movie industry..blah blah blah"
if someone mentions the war - DROP it out.

makes for a MUCH better show and makes it fair.

But why should we care what they're gonna say in the first place?

well - just that with the stresses of the war it would be nice to have the show "war free", and know that you can escape into mindless entertainment for a few hours. But the actors will use this as a platform for their personal politics.

NO offense to you Meatball because I know MANY people want to watch this show, but I couldn't care less.

They're ENTERTAINERS, not informers. Shut your mouths and ACT. On BOTH sides of the argument. It's just that this time, the anti-war people are much louder.

I never watch these kids of things anyway. I don't want to watch Hollywood pat itself on the back for 3-4 hours.

Well, they were really strict before the awards about time for speeches....i saw i think the first or second award, a guy was trying to rush into thanking someone and the orchestra drowned him out and the mic began to sink

Ok, it is fucking wrong that the Academy's honored Roman Polanski with an oscar. He is a fucking pedophille!!!!! Jesus fucking christ, does Hollywood have any sort of conscious?!?! Just think about this question...would Polanski be making any movie if hadnt fled the country for having sex with a minor??!!

Just fucking wrong...

I didn't even know that Sunday night was the awards show. When I found out, all I could think was "It's Oscar time with Paul O!!"

Damn, I miss the Ron and Fez show every night!!

I'm with moe in this one, both of them. Never watch, and who cares what they say, one way or another. However, I will contradict myself by saying Michael Moore(sp) is a dickbag.

I should just say that many great points were brought up in this thread.
For example:
Freebird's missing Paul O., Five's Woody Allen comment and Doogie's remark on Polanski. You heard their mottos right? Old enough to be seven, old enough to be ate.

The Sports Guy quotes an R&F drop in his Academy Awards recap:

5:57: Chris Cooper wins for Best Supporting Actor for "Adapatation," which I missed in the theaters because I swore off all Nic Cage movies after sitting through "Family Man." And yes, I stand by the decision. I think we're all disappointed that Chris Walken didn't win, just because we didn't get to hear his acceptance speech. I've got a fever ... and the only prescription is more cowbell.

How did they make him tootless in "Adaptation"? Was that the work of Industrial Light and Magic? Amazing!

Polanski is one of the most complex figures in the public eye, and based on the work
alone, he desrved to win the oscar.

THE PIANIST was a wonderful movie (even the grown woman who was the 13 year old
girl he had the relationship with agreed that he should be honored), and while it was
an adaptation of a biography of someone else, there's a lot of Polanski's personal life
in it - how he, as a young boy, somehow survived the ghettos in WW2. The horrors he
saw as a young child, and how he managed to survive.

And then years later, when his own wife, Sharron Tate, was not only murdered by
Charles Manson's "family," but had their unborn baby cut out of her and slaughtered -
how can someone ever regroup from something like that???

Add to that that the 1970s was a very different era, and it wasn't that unusual to see
men shack up with teen girls - I think Sonny met Cher, for example, when she was 15
or 16. The time Polanski got in trouble, some of the movies out included the Brooke
Shields one-two punch of PRETTY BABY and THE BLUE LAGOON, mainstream movies
that exploited teenage girls sexuality.

And don't forget about TAXI DRIVER, LOLITA, or even THE EXORCIST, also all from the
1960s and 1970s, and all almost pornographic in their depiction of young girls and
their sexuality.

This doesn't excuse what he did - it's just that things are a little more complicated than
"He Diddled A 13 Year Old Girl."

I thought the show sucked. Steve Martin was not funny. He had a couple of funny lines and that was about it.

I thought Broody's (sp) speech was very good, I am glad he told the orchestra to stop playing and let him speak.

Did anyone notice that they had the dates wrong on some of the oscars. Halle Berry and Denzel winning in 2001. It was 2002.

U2 was good and I wished they would have won.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

"Did anyone notice that they had the dates wrong on some of the oscars. Halle Berry

That's the way it's always listed - it's for the work during the previous calendar year.
Everyone who won last night, for example, will forever be listed as having won the
2002 Oscar.

Not only is Polanski a kid toucher (the girl was 13 for christsakes) - he's a fugitive from the American legal system, and does not deserve any praise for running away.

Michael Moore made himself look like such an idiot.
At a party afterwards he went up to Roger Ebert and said , "It was only 5 or 6 really loud people in the front, right?"
