View Full Version : Bring back secondary titles - yes or no?

I know this happened a while back, but to be honest I'm still kinda pissed about it. The WWE just doesn't seem the same anymore with just one major singles belt to contend for. Sure, there's that Cruiserweight belt, but that doesn't really count. What I'm talking about is the IC title.

It just seems like a waste to have all these wrestlers and just one major title on each show to vie for. That and you know when you have HHH, Austin & The Rock on one show, no one else stands a chance of ever seeing that belt around their waist.

What are your feelings on this? Would you like to see a secondary title added to each show, say the IC belt on Smackdown and the U.S. title on RAW? I, for one, vote wholeheartedly YES!

This was discussed a while back but here is my opinion.

Should they bring back the secondary titles?
Yes. It would be something for the jobbers/midcarders to strive for in their stay in the WWE while trying to bring credibility back to said titles.

But first they have to get rid of the duel World Titles and duel tag titles. Then combine and forget this stupid split. But that won't happen anytime soon.

So I doubt it very much.

My advice: watch old WWF European/IC Title matches.

Ooops, sorry about that. Guess I didn't check too thoroughly.

I wholeheartedly agree about the split thing. It should have gone back to normal after a month tops. For some reason I just can't get into Smackdown and because of that I know nothing about half the angles when the PPV's roll around. Sure, I read the reports and all, but it's not the same as actually seeing it.

Also, the whole two champions thing really is stupid. I understand why they had to do it, but considering they went through all that trouble to hype the unification of the belts to have a undisputed champ was completely thrown out the window with the split.
"Oh look, we have a undisputed champ for all of 4 months or so. That's long enough. Let's ruin this angle, split the rosters now and create a second championship belt for the other show."
It's mind boggling how they even stay in business with the crap they put out week after week.

Definitely bring back the IC title for Raw. For smackdown have a tourney for a belt such as US or North American champion

I agree with wrestling fan, mid carders have to get recognized.

My suggestion:

RAW Brand:

Big Fake Meaningless Gold Belt (aka "The World Title")
Intercontinental Title
Women's Title (and note to the WWE: ENOUGH already, give us Gail Kim!)
Tag Titles

SMACKDOWN! Brand:

WWE Title
TV Title (I'd rather go with the U.S. title, but fans may consider that too-WCW)
Cruizerweight Title
Tag Titles

There. A world title for each, a tag title for each, a secondary singles titles for each midcard, and a "specialty" title for a select population of the workers to fight over.

I completely agree with you Se7en, it's something I thought they would have done once the brands wee split, but apparently, they don't care about their mid-carders.

I believe they should bring back at least the IC title and maybe the US or TV title for Smackdown. There has to be a reason to have good matches. And what is the sense of having good matches if they don't propel the winners up the ladder. I mean no one besides SCSA, The Rock, Steiner, or Booker T will ever be able to get a shot at Trips Title.

I agree with Se7en, Se7en is always right. Im not being sarcastic that is a good idea but it might take away from Triple H's TV time so they probably wont do it.

FatTony mentioned Steiner. This is a perfect example.

Here we had what was touted as the "biggest free agent" in the sport and both shows fought over who got him. He winds up on RAW and immediately is thrown into the spotlight against Triple H for 2 PPVs. Now where is he? Tagging with Test and feeling up Stacy's ass. Well, the latter part is a major perk, but the former sucks.

He'll probably never see another main event match now so a secondary belt for wrestlers like him would be perfect.

You know what's a shame. If Triple H hadn't been such a ego maniacal asshole, the Intercontinental Title would still be around and it would be the major title on RAW. But no, Triple H needed to be World Champion. Thus began the destruction of the WWF

If "Trips" got full blown AIDS, it wouldn't begin to make up for the terror he hath wrought. I can't believe there's no more IC title. That was actually the home to the best feuds in the 80's, be it Muraco vs. Snuka, Santana vs. Valentine, Savage vs. Steamboat, Savage vs. HonkyTonk, and Warrior vs. Rude and Hart Piper were some good feuds too. It can't be resurrected soon enough. But I will say this, if they are only going to shit it up again and disrespect it, then let it rest as the greatest of all the WWF titles.

In a perfect world, you don't need a bunch of title belts. Because in such a world the writers and bookers would be talented enough to develop enough interesting reasons for wrestlers to feud with one another (i.e. Rock/Hogan I, Y2J/HBK, Austin/Hitman) IMO titles are there to elevate wrestlers and give them a rub. Beyond that they are just storyline for lazy writers to fall back upon.
