Some tv shows should just end completely Unfortunately some shows were spinoffs and were horrible. The 3 that come to mind are Joanie Loves Chachi, Archie Bunkers Place and Three's a Crowd... Awful!!!!!!
Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

-Boys will be boys from Married...with children
-The Tortellis from Cheers. Not a bad show, just very short lived.
-The Art of Being Nick from Family Ties. I think I was the only one who saw this pilot that was never picked up.

"After MASH" (MASH)
"Gloria" (All In the Family)
"Just the Ten of Us" (Growing Pains)
"The Tortellis" (Cheers)
"Enos" (Dukes of Hazzard)
"Galactica 1980" (Battlestar Galactica)

No problem. But after I posted I realized -- didn't they try to start some spinoff when Bud went to college? Wasn't there an episode with a couple of college-radio station DJs or something?

I don't remember that at all.
But how about the failed attempt in the Brady Bunch trying to start a spinoff with Ken Berry and some woman adopting a child and his black and asian friends. Sadly, it never took off.

O.K., I'll spark some controversy: "Frasier."
Not that I don't like the Frasier Crane character; in fact, I loved him on "Cheers." He was a master of the one-liner and comedic stare and I thought he was awesome. But after watching "Frasier" for a couple of years I got sick of all the whining and didn't understand why Frasier became so snobbish in Seattle. Yes, he was an intellectual and very refined on "Cheers" but he did afterall hang out with Norm Peters and Cliff Claven all day; surely he would have had more acceptance for the "common man." I say shame on you Mr. Littlefield and shame on you N.BC.
And for a different thought, my favorite spin-off that they haven't made would be "The Wiggums." Please oh please if the Simpsons ever leave let Fox give us "The Wiggums."
Ahhh, to write a long post. I have not had the experience. Well it's good that I picked an important topic.

Galactica 1980 wasn't so much of a spinoff as it was a prison rape scene.

I totally agree with you Dave. Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Cheers, I did like the characters a lot. But I never liked the show Frasier. I find it to be an extremely obnoxious and unfunny show. The characters are very annoying. Frasier was excellent when he interacted with Cliff and Norm. But not enough to base an entire sitcom on.

I would rather see a simpsons spinoff of Homer and Barney in their high school years then a wiggum spinoff
Fish - spinoff of Barney Miller
Daria - Beavis & Butthead Spinoff
and how about the top of the heap spinoff: Vinnie and Bobby
one of the best spinoffs was Aeon Flux off of MTV's liquid television

i know this is really not responsive to the question, but i felt the need to add anyway... the best spin-off ever is angel (spun from the best show ever, buffy the vampire slayer).
otherwise, spin-offs generally really suck

Here are a couple of obscure ones...
"Out of the Blue" - starring comic Jimmy Brogan as an angel who comes to live with a family - spun-off from Mork and Mindy
"Mr. T and Tina" - starring Pat Morita as inventor, Mr. Takahashi, coping with (I think) a live-in housekeeper named Tina - spun off from Welcome Back Kotter.

Just awful. If you're going to give a supporting cast member their own spinoff, why go with her over Methos?
