BUTT OUT, BLOOMBERG! PUB CRAWL and "Cigarette Light Vigil"!
Saturday, March 29th @ 8 PM

I'm not a smoker, but I disagree with the smoking ban. And I'm always up for a good pub crawl situation, so at 1st I was excited to attend this deal. But then I read that this is a Libertarian Party effort--you know, the guys who went to Harlem and gave away toy guns and got chased away by angry parents and kids?! Everything they do seems to go to hell. I hate to miss a pub crawl, but I refuse to voluntarily make a fool of myself by being attached to these idiots.

But, you've gone out with us before.

Can it get worse?

i heard girls who smoke like to have their butts out...

it should be mandatory for establishments to have an enclosed smoking room which contains one of them smoke-eating machines with comfortable couches and chairs...

it's hard for a non-smoker to imagine how a smoker can be okay with the bad breath and other items it brings a bad odor too, like hair and clothes...

their will is weak... they will fight you tooth and nail because they can't will themselves to not smoke...

i let people smoke in my car and in my basement but not in the main part of the house... my Mom smoked since a teenager and suffered a massive heart attack at age 60 and the doctor said smoking lead to the blocking of her arteries...

to say all smokers are weak minded is ignorant.. some people drink to relieve stress some people do the same with cigarettes... not all people that smoke in bars are addicted.. some like have a cigarette with a drink, it just goes hand and hand..

jocefus,

you're right...

is was thinking about what I wrote today and began to think that i could have worded it differently...

people can have a weakness in one area but be very strong in another...take alot of your musicians, they smoke but have also had the will to learn how to play an instrument and become very successful...

I think your case is the minority where you will have the occasional cigarette...and in most cases ppeople would prefer they would quit but haven't been able to, and just give up trying to quit...

Just wanna point out that my original thought was not anti-smoker, but anti-Libertarian. Thank you. And, yes, happy birthday to me.

again, i feel i have to chime in because i feel that people aren't quite getting it here...

this law was passed months ago, it's a done deal, if it's gonna get reversed now it's gonna be at least months before we can smoke again.

for you, the individual in a bar who decides, fuckem, it's a stupid law, i'm gonna sneak a smoke; what are the consequences? probably none. for the bar that you're smoking in? fines. sure, they start at just 200 bucks, not much right, pay the fine, move on...eh, what's 200 bucks, it's not like the economy's in the toilet and small business are closing down left and right. 2nd fine, 500 to a grand, ouch. 3rd fine? 1-2,000 dollars. that'll put a small business out into the street. but, that won't be a problem because after that they'll revoke your liquor license anyway, bar closes down...

this law sucks balls in so many ways, but i'm asking you, as one of the employees that bloomberg is "protecting" with this law. please don't smoke in the bar. we're the ones who are gonna be stuck policing this. my case is probably a little different from many because i work for assholes who plan to charge the staff for any fines we incur. but, in any place, if the place you work for goes out of business you're out of a job and i think we all know how hard it is to find something new these days.

i think i've rambled, i think i'm done. this fucking sucks. who wants to open a bar with me and help me run it so we can allow smoking under the owner operated establishment clause?

Seriously? Fat chance on the law being repealed. And if, by some odd chance, that does happen, it will be back within 5 years.

It's really something you're just going to have to learn to live with.

And as far as this:

to say all smokers are weak minded is ignorant.. some people drink to relieve stress some people do the same with cigarettes...
To me, that statement seems to contradict itself. You say you're not weak-minded, but the only way you can relieve the stress in your life is to use a substance that gets you high? (A slight high is still a high.) If your mind is that strong, can't it figure out a more constructive, free, non-drug-related way to deal with your stress?

Also, your argument sounds like a cigarette addiction is a perfectly fine way to deal with stress.... you also mention alcohol.... is alcoholism just as acceptable to you? If not, big double standard there....
