For one reason or another, Halliburton will not get a large reconstruction contract in Iraq. There goes another conspiracy theory.

Bush and his No. 1 ally, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, dickered at Camp David

I don't think most people saw it as a conspiracy but rather an apperance of impropriety.

see, it does work. When you complain about improprieties in the government, sometimes they get changed.

Yes, regardless of whether there is evidence or not, as long as it appears people are doing wrong, if a small group of people bitch loud enough, things get changed around. just to please those people.

Jays, I don't remember seeing this on any major news outlets, so it must've struck a serious nerve with the administration for them to recoil like that, because not that that many people we're "bitching." Hmmmm . . . interesting, could it be that when an administration shows favoritism to one company, especially when the vice-president was the former head of said company, some might view that as unethical?

1) Snce when is MSNBC not a major news outlet? We all just found out about this from a major news outlet.

2)The major news outlets are kinda busy covering the conflict in Iraq, and probably feel it's more important to inform people at home on what's happening over there than to report on a story about a company no longer in the running for a reconstruction contract, so please forgive them if this isn't front page news.

3) Since when is something that doesn't make the top news stories considered a recoil by the administration? George Bush took a dump today, OMG, the administration RECOILS IN HORROR and pulls the story.

OOO, look at me, I read articles.

And Beans said that Andrew Natsios, director of the aid agency-which is handing out most of the postwar contracts-is keen to counter any allegations of favoritism or political influence. "If I got a phone call from anybody putting any political pressure on me, I would report it immediately to Natsios, as I've been instructed to do," said Beans. "He said if anybody calls you, if there's any pressure whatsoever, you tell me immediately . No one has called me on this. This is going to be done completely openly, transparently and honestly." USAID officials also emphasize that bidding is reviewed by two "independent" panels composed of engineers and career civil servants.

I do read articles-- i also read who is giving the quote. You should be aware that most people are not about to incriminate themselves.

And yes, MSNBC is a major news station, and they broke a story on Halliburton being CUT from the bidding several weeks after alternative journalists began reporting on how Halliburton was receiving these contracts.

sometimes they didn't even bid for them.

and no American Media Outlet has mentioned that Cheney is still being paid $1,000,000 a year by Halliburton http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,912515,00.html Even though this is legal, one must wonder how he can avoid not being influence by this.

And if you still think Halliburton is on the up and up, take a look at this article. (remember this is our Vice president's former company)

yes, i read articles. I read many, many articles.

There are oil fires burning in Iraq. They need to be put out immediatly. No time to ask for bids, they need the contractor that can get the job done right away. Haliburton has the experience, has the plans, and has the ability to go in right away. The Army Corps of Engineers decided to go with them.

and no American Media Outlet has mentioned that Cheney is still being paid $1,000,000 a year by Halliburton. Even though this is legal, one must wonder how he can avoid not being influence by this.

It is money that is owed to him.

One must wonder how he can avoid the influence? 1) He took an oath that puts the interests of the American people far above his own interests. 2) He's a fucking multi-millionaire already. I don't think waving a million dollars of his own money in front of his face every year for the next five years is going to make him favor his old company than to stay in accordance to the rules that his office holds. 3)

"Also, the vice president has nothing whatsoever to do with the Pentagon bidding process," the aide added.

And if you still think Halliburton is on the up and up, take a look at this article. (remember this is our Vice president's former company)

Are you inferring that Haliburton supports terrorism? Because that's not what I got from the article.

Nope, only that Halliburton in under investigation for dealings with terrorist states. Whether that is supporting terrorism is up to you to decide.

Of course, the irony is thick: A company is paid to put out fires in one terrorist state. in another, money from that company is being funneled by the government into terrorist groups to start new "fires" all over the world.

Poetics of an Aristotlian magnitude.

The irony is only thick when it can be proven that the money from that company is being funneled by the government into terrorist groups to start new "fires" all over the world.
Otherwise, the irony simply isn't there.

I am glad they are under investigation, because then I can be wrong when this evidence is found.
