Been reading Penthouse Forum again.

Or was it Highlights.

Is the green stuff you are referring to the same as the gunk that is found when you pull apart a crab?

I could really go for some seafod right about now.

CZM - I know you know that is an Urban Legend. The green stuff, however, is not.

<font color=purple>The only thing better than lobster is more lobster.

And since I only eat it out, or in somebody else's home, I've never been privy to any green suff.

Unless you're saying that it doesn't come out while cooking, in which case I guess every lobster I've ever had has been lured into some sea shell by a hot looking lady crab, drugged and had their liver stolen before making their way to my plate.

Chairman, is the green crap gonna be the secret ingredsient tonite?

Tonight's secret ingredient is "Egg."

I haven't seen this episode and am psyched. Will they be fresh? Hard Bolied? A combo of different eggs? Will it be an old one where Kaga gives some advice on eggs like "So remember.... always boil the egg like a baby's head" or will it be a new one?

Anyone interested in joining a "real time" chat room with me while we watch it? Too Cute is at a Lord of the Rings convention and I'm all alone! :-(

Little did I know there is actually a "Lobster Institute."

Thanks to their web site's FAQ, I found out....

What is the green stuff you find in the cooked lobsters? Can you eat it?

This is the tomalley which functions like the liver, pancreas and intestines in the lobster. Many find it delicious to eat. Recently there have been concerns about finding dioxin in tomalley. The Maine Lobster Promotion Council offers this advice to consumers and concerned citizens: "(According to the Advanced Seafood Handbook,) `there are no known safety considerations when it comes to eating lobster meat. However, consumers are advised not to eat the tomalley, the light green substance found in the lobster's carapace. This is the liver and pancreas, which are thought to accumulate contaminants from the environment.' Much like the liver of other animals, the lobster's tomalley is the natural filter for contaminants, like dioxins, from entering the system. Finding the dioxins in the lobster tomalley is regrettable, and certainly a sign of the times in which we live. However, it is also a reassuring indication of the lobster's natural defense system at work, keeping the lobster meat wholesome, nutritious and delicious."

Ummmmmmmm. I still eating the green stuff. But that was a little too much information.

I never ate lobster. They look like insects and they scream when you throw them in the pot of boiling water.

The only lobster who looked appetizing was Pinchy.

According to the Lobter Institute's Web Site FAQ:

Do lobsters feel pain when you cook them?

The nervous system of a lobster is very simple - not unlike that of an insect. Neither insects nor lobsters have brains. For an organism to perceive pain it must have a more complex nervous system. Neurophysiologists tell us that lobsters, like insects, do not process pain.

worked as the head cook in a seafood restaurant at the jersey shore.....have killed about 4000 lobsters in my day and you have to rip thier little hearts and gizzards out:

those little sonsabitches can still snap thier claws about 5 minutes after being cut completely in half ask my index finger and the band aid i needed soon thereafter

on another note: here's a cheap diner trick that we used....we always kept one of our lobsters alive so when asked if our lobsters were alive we would always say yes and if they asked to see one, we would bring out that one, when in fact, they were being served one of the ones we had killed either earlier that day or the day or two before

green=tomalley
red=roe

causing it to flip its tail in a violent snapping motion

this usually scares the shit out of the waitresses i didn't realize why they were scared till CZM's post
