i was just reading about the recent suicide bombing in Iraq that killed 4 Serviceman and began to wonder whether these suicide bombers went voluntarily or were forced or pressured to do it...

what do you think?

it seems like the Palestinian suicide bombers are more on a volunteer basis but I'm not so sure there either...

there's a long tradition practically everywhere in the world of people going on "suicide missions." It's practically a staple in the movie industry.

Good question, Funkman but in the long run, what does it matter-the results are still the same. I know what you're getting at . Are the Fayadeen forcing men to do this while they hold their families at gunpoint or are they patriots for the Iraqi side. We probably will never know. All I do know is that they are really messing up the schedule that the Pentagon had relied upon. I forget what general said it and I paraphrase- all plans go to hell once you are n battle.

Suicide bombers are part of the arab culture. They're taught in school that it's a gateway to heaven. Little kids hold parties with mock explosives taped to them in preparation of the day when they can join their brethren in paradise. Killing infidels, religious jihad is part of the Koran, the educational system, the religious infreastucture, the political system, the defining identiy of their culture.

Silly geese. The only paradise is by the dashboard lights.

With most of the Palestinian bombers, it's almost like they're happy to go out and bomb themselves to pieces...but with the Iraqis, well, forcing someone to suicide-bomb Americans at the threat of killing the bomber's family instead seems like something Saddam is all too capable of. The Iraqis don't have the culture of suicide bombers like the Palestinians, so it seems like "wishful thinking" on the Iraqi government's part that the people are gonna start blowing themselves up left and right.

In today's Washington Post , the Iraqis say this will be a regular occurrence. Also in the paper, it says that Hussein set up a training school for suicide bombers before the war started.

I saw a comic somewhere and the guy who was training the "future bombers" said:

"Watch closely because i'm only gonna do this one time"

I have a thought: It seems the US is totally against performing a suicide related mission. I would believe if we trained an assassin, someone to live within Iraq and gain the trust of the people and authorities as being a regular citizen, even if it took a few years. Then have the assassin pick Saddam off with a high-powered rifle. I would assume the assassin would be a dead man afterwards but it would have been a "nice hit"...

yeah i know, kind of outrageous but i wouldn't think impossible...

We're not going to put people on massive suicide missions because we value life and hold it dear. Human rights and all.

I'm not saying we haven't or wouldn't, but we'd never ask masses of citizens to attempt shit like that, like other governments and terrorist organizations have.

The only paradise is by the dashboard lights.

True, but I prefer to be taken down to Paradise City: where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.

"Voluntary or Forced?"

There seems to be a lot of the Iraqis that do not feel they are being liberated - many
of the regular people have told news reporters that they wish they had guns.

The site of Americans coming into their country is not comforting to them, no matter
what they feel about Saddam.

They really won't affect anything until they have to occupy Baghdad. Out in the desert they just make everyone strip down at gun point. The suicide bombers won't really get a chance to do anything like that, but who knows about the peacekeeping force.
