It's a sad reflection on our culture that there even is such a question.

I've always found it rather remarkable, that most homophobes aren't aware that most pedophiles are heterosexuals not homosexuals.

The boy scout issue is simply another forum used by the religious right in advancing it's openly intollerant attitude towards homosexuality.

The boyscouts actually lost alot of members after that descision. Most of the public school system (a main supporter of the boyscouts) has basicly told the boyscouts that they cannot use their facilities anymore, because the public school system cannot support a group that is anti-homosexual. I say let those who are homosexual join the boyscouts, assuming that they will touch little boys is just like assuming a male teacher will groap his female students.

I forgot to address the legal issue before.

The SC based it's ruling on the basis that the Boys Club is a privately held organization that does not obtain any govt. funding for it's programs. Basically they said, that while not approving of the boy scout's policy they can't make illegal what goes on behind closed private doors.

It's particularly interesting that this year the SC upheld a criminal conviction of a drug dealer based on evidence obtained by a type of camera that saw drugs "through" the guy's walls. They also upheld admission into evidence of arial thermal imaging that "saw through" a person's roof that detected growing pot plants.

The SC has overturned decisions allowing "mens only" clubs.

Their decision in this case was more hypocritical than usual. Hence the expression "the law is an ass."

Personal freedoms get violated everydays by the Supreme Court and no one does a damn thing because they don't have lobbying power. This isn't new it will continue to happen when people stop saying that this country is great and we don't need to change all that much and look at the problems.

I didn't say that the SC actually protects personal in practice. They are supposed to uphold the Constitution which guarantees personal freedom. Whether or not they do so is a matter of debate.
