A lot of self-proclaimed military experts keep making the comparison to Somalia. What I want to know is how a small group of about 2 dozen under-supplied troops without air support who managed to kill 1,000 enemy soldiers and are simply trying to make it out alive compares to 250,000 troops with constant supplies led by air strikes who have an objective in front of them?

DRAGON-- you've got your numbers all wrong, plus there was air support, but not much, in the Somalia operation that Black Hawk Down was about.

The thread is in reference to "Black Hawk Down," a film based on The Battle at Bakhara Market which occured on October 3rd and 4th 1993. There was no air support that I have heard of on this date. There were about 2 dozen battle deaths (18) and 78 wounded. Still, the troop strength in Somalia does not compare to Iraq and that was my point.

Perhaps instead there will be a made for TV movie called "Saving the Private's Hymen - The Jessica Lynch Story."
