Anyone remember this
series
from the '70's? It ran every
weekday from 4:30 to 6:00
PM
on channel 7. It was always
best when they had a
theme -
Hitchcock week or Vincent
Price week, etc. Of course,
the greatest were Godzilla &
Planet of the Apes weeks. I
scarfed down many a TV
dinner
in my youth gazing blankly
at
the screen.

I always liked "Monster Week".
And what about Channel 9 and the "Million Dollar Movie"?
Channel 11 had "Thriller Theater" and Channel 5 had "Creature Freature".
I really miss those.

I can hear the theme to the
Million Dollar Movie now....!

Which one had the hand coming
out of the ground in the
beginning, Creature Feature or
Thriller Theater?

Chiller Theater had the hand coming out of the ground. I always loved those cheesy horror films.
As far as the 4;30 movie, every Easter and Christmas it was all those religous movies. John Wayne week was always big in my house. My dad thought he stood for everything American.

The Late Show on Channel 2 was the only thing on when ya got home from a night of partying. If you stayed up late enough, you could catch the sermonette and the national anthem.

The 4:30 movie was great, I have been trying to remember the name of a movie that I saw as a kid. I think it was during monster week. These 2 japanese kids wind up on this "monster planet", there was a monster that looked like a giant knife. I think Gamera saves the kids at the end. Does anyone remember the name of this movie ? The Omega Man was also great.

Does anyone remember the movie with Phyllis Diller as a claymation character with all of the classic movie monsters. They are on a cruise ship and then they go to an island.

I think it was called Monster Island also.

A staple of the 4:30 movie was "Trilogy of Terror" Karen Black and the little tiki monster.

There was another one were a couple who moved into a house and these gremlin types lived in the duct work. You only see shadows of them until the end when they are dragging the women down the stairs.

The Blowhard
08-03-2001, 09:18 AM
I think the Phillis Diller film was "Mad Monster Party".
As for the Gamera film...there were so many!
"Trilogy Of Terror" was great!
That was one of the great ABC Movies, which gave us such classics as "Duel" and "When Michael Calls".

Remember the TV movie "Bad
Ronald"? It was about a kid
who accidentally killed a
little girl, so his mother
builds a secret room in the
basement to hide him from the
authorities. She winds up
dying, and the house gets sold
with Ronald still living in
that secret room. Scared the
shit out of me as a kid.

Speaking of cheesy horror flicks, does anyone remember a movie called The Thing With Two Heads? It had Ray Milland and Rosie Greer. Ray Milland was a racist scientist dying, wanted to tranplant a head on to himself and it turned out to be Rosie Greer. It hasn't been on in years and I don't think it's out on video. It was hysterical with all the racial comments they made to each other.

Great flick Junkie. Channel 9 really showed some awful films. Remember Deathdream? A Viet Nam soldier who was supposedly killed comes back home as a zombie? Or what about Children Should'nt Play With Dead Things? Channel 9 films ruled.

GVAC, I remember that movie with the guy in the walls. He was spying on the new girls that moved in, very freaky.

A classic late night movie was "Night of the living dead" used to scare the shit out of me. We lived in West Babylon near all the cemetaries.

Jafter,

I can't remember if "Dawn of
the Dead" or "Night of the
Living Dead" was the black and
white original, but I saw that
with a group of friends at the
Public Library when I was 12
or 13. They used to show free
movies every friday night, and
we would all walk there together.

I lived the farthest, so at
the end of the night I had a
good 5 or 6 block walk ALONE.
I remember running home down
the middle of the street
because I was afraid of what
might jump out of the bushes.

Bad Ronald - saw it, he had a picture drawn on the wall of a prince. Then the old lady neighbor saw him and had a heart attack or fell down the stairs?

Carnival Of Souls - I believe it was called. I remember a bunch of walking dead people, near the water, under a highway or something, scaring the hell out of this woman and me...

Horror Hotel - this scared my butt when I was a kid. The witches and warlocks in the cave under the hotel. The old man in the church. The boyfriend in the end carrying the cross and when the shadow touches the witches they burn up, Excellent!

Does anyone ever show those movies any more? Has anyone ever seen them on video anywhere?

This was not a 4:30 movie but I remember watching it on TV.

A guy gets knocked out in a department store and he is stuck in the store over night. The catch is that the store's security has these doberman pincers running around the store at night. He has to try and survive the night.

I do not who starred in it or what the title was. I always thought it was a kinda cool movie.

I used to love the 4:30 movie. My favorite used to be when they would a
"Beatles Week" and play "Hard Day's Night", "Help", "Yellow Submarine", "Let It Be" and "Magical Mystery Tour".

I remember this because it was at a time when I was starting to appreciate music and it was so cool to watch those films. I still love them today.

...and the hand had 6 fingers! Creepy!

My favorite "Chiller Theatre" movie as a kid was an English zombie biker flick named "Psychomania". Lord, that movie scared the living shit out of me as a kid. I recently watched it for the first time in 25 years and laughed at how cheesy it really was.

Amazing! I always told my friends about this film, how bikers drove out of their graves and through brick walls, but NOBODY believed me. I just bought that film a few months back LOL!
As for "Horror Hotel", a classic. Christopher Lee and the whole "burn witch burn" stuff was very scary, I also own that one on video.
As for movies like "Bad Ronald", they were originally made for ABC and shown in prime time, along with the great "Trilogy Of Terror" with Karen Black, "Duel", directed by Spielberg, and many other classic made for TV Movies.
Jafter, did the film about the guy locked in the store with dogs star James Brolin? It rings a bell.

Chiller Theater was on Channel 11, and yes, that creepy hand and voice saying "chil-ler" scared the hell out of me.
Channel 5 had "Creature Features" on Saturday nights, it was hosted in the old days by Zacherle, who portrayed a ghoul. Funny guy, bad makeup and puns.
Channel 9 had a midnight movie, the names escapes me. They really showed some sick films, like "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things", "The Thing With 2 Heads" and other really bad movies.

JAFTER - I think "Trapped" is what you were looking for. I remember seeing it as a kid and being freaked out by my aunt's doberman after that. James Brolin was in it right around the time he was in "Westworld" which is one of the best of the Saturday afternoon creep-out movies. As is "Day of the Triffids" the horror version of "Sigmund the Seamonster".

I liked the mothra movies with the tiny japanese girls that would sing to him. Vincent Price in The Pit and the Pendulum the little guy in Trilogy of terror scared me as a kid. I moved to Ohio when I was 9, and there was a guy out of Cinncinati named Bob Shreve who used to host a late show. Sometimes he would have a Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chan double feature. Then I'd watch the national anthem and fall asleep on the floor. <P>
