The US? The UN? maybe the US and several European and middle eastern nations combined?

I have no faith in the UN so that's out the window.

U.S. & Great Britain, primarily. Maybe give the Aussies some stroke too, since they're helping us out. The U.N. should only get involved in dealing with humanitarian needs.

That's who SHOULD be responsible, IMO, not who will be. The U.S. and G.B. will likely play the largest role anyway, but the U.N. will get its claws into Iraq. We'll let them, too, because we'll want to let it seem as if we're willing to cowtow to the U.N.

Whoever participated should have a say in it.

Although I think that handing it over to the UN would be the only thing that convince people it's not about oil, I just couldn't support that.

France, Germany, China, and Russia all opposed this attack, and now people want us to hand it over to all of those countries.
That's just ridiculious.

At least they picked that Lebanese-American General to be one of the administrators.
He speaks fluent Arabic.

They should let some right wing Iraqi guy who's ten times worse then Saddam take the reins. Of course the US would use him like a puppet and... nevermind I'm talking crazy. That would never happen.

Pax Americana

So reruns of "Doc" and "Trapper John MD" are going to run Iraq?

Great. Pax sucks.

Little is known specifically about Cobra Commander's past, but early in life he was a used car salesman.

Perfect.

Why do you think the World Health Organization should occupy Iraq?

Seriously though...it's beginning to worry me with Powell's mention that the UN may not be included in reconstruction of Iraq. It would be a very bad move by the US to try and do it alone. Regardless of economic costs, the Iraqi's as well as others in the Middle East and World will view this as imperial. We should have impact in the occupation and reconstruction obviously...but let the UN take a decent part in it.

I don't agree that the UN should get much say in what happens post-Saddam. They didn't want to remove him, but now they want to reap the benefits of a sanction-free Iraq? I just don't think that would be the right thing to do, no matter how "Imperial" it makes us look. The other 45ish nations in the Coalition should have a say in it somewhat, but the nations represented at the Azores should have the most control. Let a British General be in command and help assuage some of the Middle Eastern angst, then call for free elections within 8-10 months.

But we ARE going to eventually let the Iraqis deal and trade with whoever they want, right? If they want to deal with the UN, trade with France/Russia/China/Germany, that's THEIR business, right?

They've got some retired army general named Garner lined up for the job. Right now he's working for some company, mebbe the president of it, that's doing business with the defense dept.
One nomination that was shot down earlier in the selection process was a former head of the CIA.
