<marquee>What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff-I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the Catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy</marquee>

you should also try The Scofflaws, The Stubborn All-Stars and The Slackers

If you wanna go old school you should check out Desmond Decker, Don Drummond and Laurel Aitken and The Skatalites.

I know The Wetlands used to have Ska shows all the time but I think they closed down. You should pick up the Village Voice and check out the lists of shows there, maybe Irving Plaza. The scene has died down again though so it might be tough.

Inspector 7 was pretty good. How `bout Mephaskapheles?

Their Demo tape was awesome it had a badass version of Eskimo and Doomsday wasn't so damn fast like it was on the CD. Who could forget the BumbleBee Tuna Song. Or "My Bolgna has first name it's S-A-T-A-N".

I used to, but I think as a genre it's pretty much run its course...

I loved the Bosstones' first four albums, Fishbone is one of my favorite bands of all time (Except for the nasty "Give A Monkey A Brain..."), STILL love The Pietasters...nothing can touch the quality of the Brit Two-Tone era, Madness and The (English) Beat being two of the most obvious examples...

A great series of comps that's quickly going out of print was the four part "Skarmageddon" series, by the now sadly defunct Moon Ska Records. Each comp was two discs, the first having newer acts, and the second showcasing classic tracks that may have been overlooked "back in the day"...track them down if you can...try Gemm.com...

http://gemm.com

I also loved the one-shot "Ska Sucks" comp from a few years back. Should still be in stores...

I have been listening to ska for many many moons... The Bosstones and Operation Ivy will always be me fav. Some other good bands....The Suicide Machines, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Cherry Poopin Daddies, Mephiskapheles, Skankin Pickle friggin rule!!!! Hepcat and the Skatalites are a bit more mellow.

A good album is Take Warning, The Songs of Operation Ivy.

If you like older ska from the early 80's pick up a cd called Dance Craze it is a compilation of British Ska bands like Specials, The English Beat, Bad Manners, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers, and The Special AKA. Unfortunately the CD does not have the Madness tracks that were on the vinyl copy.

Should be a good starting point to finding some 80's ska bands.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

When I listened to KROQ, "I Confess" by the English Beat was one of my favorite songs. Maybe I'll download it for nostalgic purposes.

I've seen the Pietasters and the Toasters numerous times and I love the Specials, Hepcat, Op Ivy, Jimmy Cliff ( the original), the Skoidats, Pilfers, etc... I'm such a fan but have been more attuned, as of late, to my rock 'n' roll. One of my best friend's brothers is in Inspector 7...they're effing incredible!

For those of you who are fans of the now disbanded Inspecter 7, you should be pleased to know that there's a newly formed band The Hub City Stompers. Key members of I7 are now in HCS, I have yet to witness this new collaberation, but from what i hear it's more traditional ska and they're pretty good. So they still play out alot, just check them out on a google search. And they still play some I7 oldies but goodies.

As for other ska bands: Scofflaws put on a hell of a show back in the day. Meph, incredible!! and a little band out of the mid west Skoidats. They too, RIP. But you can always check them and Meph out on Launch.com, Moon put out a video for the Skoidats, and there's the couple vid's Meph has on there too. Just do another search.

Ska would be ideal to be big again now. It's happy and upbeat, but all in due time. Everything comes back eventually.

I guess no one has heard of The Selecter. Oh well, they were a good band. I really can't appreciate anything from the 90's on, it doesn't have that same feeling.
