i was reading my book which has the entire history of marvel comics from the beginning to the spidey clones and age of apocalypse...
anyway i noticed something i never noticed before ...the origin of galactus...apparently he was a guy names Galem who existed before this universe was born, right before the Big Bang he flew into the heart of what would b the explosion, adn then was transformed into Galactus.....
ive read comix since i was 6 and i never knew he actually had an origin...i always thought he just existed...similar to the Eternals..
am i the only one who never knew he had an origin?

here is the paragraph dealing with Galactus's origin verbatim
" Lee and Kirby eventually revealed Galactus to have once been a mortal named Galen, the last survivor of a dying universe that preceded our own. Galen, shown in a retelling by John Byrne, is transported by rocket to the center of the big bang that created the present cosmos. Somehow, he is transformed into a physical incarnation of destruction, whose coming serves as a trial by fire for the population of inhabited worlds."
the title of the book is Marvel Universe by Peter Sanderson
the issue that shows galactus's origin is Fantastic Four #262

This origin has been around for a good twenty years, ever since they started putting out those old "Marvel Universe" sourcebooks...they've always mentioned that he wasn't really a "god", just that he had been around "since this universe began"...
I miss "The Marvel Universe Book of The Dead".

Yeah, the orgin's been around forever. I don't read comics anymore, but I remember reading that one. They travelled around in these sphere things and observed the universe. If I remember right, the dude who became Galactus was some sort of scientist trying to stop the end of his universe.

yeah, i've seen that in stories several times. maybe also in silver surfer early 80's when we heard about the origin of tyrant.
now of course galactus is dead.

I read that many years ago. Basically, his universe died and he jumped into the creation of this one.
