I woke up a few minutes ago and to my gunk filled eyes was SNOW on the ground. I knew they were calling for it but it is really coming down and it is APRIL for goodness sakes.

Is it normal to have a late snow in April since it is still quite cold some days and Mother Nature can't figure out just when she wants to get HOT.

I was asking my Grandparents if they remember when the latest snow was. My Grandmom said 1982 but she couldn't remember.

So I ask, when is the latest snow fall that any of you can remember and the latest snowfall on record even in our general area on the east coast?

In 1997, it didn't snow all winter and on the first day of spring it snowed like 5 inches I think.

April 1, 1997 was a pretty huge snowstorm in the Northeast, although NYC apparently only got about 6 inches (I was in school in Providence at that time and we got a couple of feet, if memory serves)

April 6, 1982 9.6 inches in NYC

BTW try here:
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/servlets/SCoptions4?station=305801NEW+YORK+CNTRL+PRK+WSFO&state=New+York&short=30

You can check earliest/latest/heaviest snowfalls in NYC there. If you go back to the main page for that site you can check othe rstates and counties.

I remember that storm. It was right before Easter. It snowed on easter a few days later, but nearly as bad.

I remember it snowing in mid-April a few decades ago :)

Last night, my oldest daughter was complaining that she had the stupid homework assignment of listeing to a wheather report. I told her, "It's April, chances are they'll say it will be seasonably mild w/possibility of showers." That's why I don't make bets.

This morning on Good Day New York the anchors were making fun of the weatherman for saying it was going to snow. He had the last laugh, I suppose.
