It's taken us twenty days, a few dozen lost servicemen, civilian casualties in the thousands, and the destruction of a country's infrastructure to find 20 missiles.

Am I supposed to admit that this war was worth it now?

i'm not looking for a moral judgement, just giving a heads up. But I doubt it's going to end with just 20 missiles when this is over.

Less than a hundred dead so that thousands perhaps more will live?

Sounds like a very clear equation to me.

And of course, this will not be the last WMD site and cache located.

I'd sacrifice myself if it would prevent another 9/11 - or worse.

I just wish people weren't dying.

I can't stand to see the pictures of the dead young men and women, or read the interviews with their surviving parents or spouses.

I still hold on to the hope that there was a better way.

No moral judgment either. I don't think one death is justified in this war.

They're going to find a lot more than just these 20 missles, Silera.

They've already found more than that.

They've also found that the Euphrates river is loaded with mustard gas and cyanide.

I guess they're trying to hide it.

Silera,
Trust me when I say I really know how you feel. Unlike you though, I feel that this war was necessary to fight not only Saddam but terrorism as a whole. I, too, cry everytime I see a young serviceman or woman hurt or killed in this horrible war. Hopefully, though, their sacrifices will have been for something in the future. I firmly believe that we have to find terrorism wherever we find it to protect those who come after us.
You are one of the many "anti-war" people that I honor and respect. Hopefully, we can all work together in our many different ways to make our world safer and more beautiful for our children and grandchildren
Silera, don't ever change-fight the good fight and remember- those people are fighting for all of us!!

Everyone in the media is over speculating the proof, validity and fact of all these items they are finding. For every one they find...a few days later they announce it wasn't what they believed it to be. Stop Speculating to try and prove some point. Let the evidence be proven into fact and then make your point. Until that occurs, you're just speculating and adding to the half-truths.

This makes me very sad, too. The man in the office next to mine studies turtles, and one of the turtles that he studies is endagered and lives only in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

On the upside, it seems to be surviving (barely) upstream in Turkey, depite their massive dam-building projects.

But how many thousands would die as a result of any one of those missiles hitting a populated area? Then multiply that by 20x. In my opinion finding these weapons which "did not exist" is another factor justifying this war.

Five, I think if they dropped a chemical weapon in your backyard you would say the US government put it there so you would believe them. Face it, you will be against this government no matter what happens.

Not at all. Every time they have announced finding a chemical plant, a substance, etc...It's been announced afterwards as not what they had originally thought or not completely confirmed. And many of the missiles, substances, etc...they have all been stated in previous reports (rediscovery isn't anything special). Where are all the chemical transports, factories and WMD, Powell talked about to the UN? Every time they've discovered something, in the comment is the word 'possible', 'maybe', 'could be'...etc. It is over speculation. Find me a discovery which has been 100% fact and proven. Such a discovery doesn't exist. When and if they have legitimate proof, data and fact, I have no problem accepting such things. But I don't believe half-truths.

Two things still remain...

There was never any indication he was going to use them against us, even though he could have with much more suprise, speed and devastation in the past.

And if we're taking him out over the "possibility" of using WMD's, we've got a long, long list of opponents lining up after him. Yay.

I'd sacrifice myself if it would prevent another 9/11 - or worse.

Iraq has WMD's. Saddam Hussein is an evil, evil bastard. But I'd fight until my last dying breath to prevent another catstrophe like the tragedy that was the sinking of the Titanic.

See what I just did?

That's about the most awful mangling of facts I've ever seen in the history of the world. Remember! If you say "9/11" and "Saddam" enough times together, it becomes TRUE! Yeah, feel "safer" there, tiger...

it's not important whether he was going to use them against us, our allies or our enemies. He signed a treaty with us and the UN to disarm.

Funny... The only reference to the 20 missles I could find was via that link. The only other news of chemical weapons was that of suspect non-weaponized material found in drums that could be pesticide. Dam those mosquitos!

Does it matter where they were going to hit? As someone mentioned, Saddam can be a threat to locals in his region...not the US directly. The US found this enough to be a reason for war. Does it really matter if the planes would have hit an ally of ours? What exactly are you even trying to say by mentioning that they had no indication where the planes would hit? Would it have been ok and no war on terrorism if the planes hit elsewhere, whether an ally or enemy?

you should probably read this entire thread first. he was saying that in responce to mojo's:

Two things still remain...

There was never any indication he was going to use them against us, even though he could have with much more suprise, speed and devastation in the past.

which, i think mojo meant that this find is still not a justification for the war because even a smoking gun is not enough, it's the intent behind the weapons that's important. and saddam showed little to no intent or "indication". And i believe Bestinshow was getting at you can never fully know what someone's intent is until it's too late.

am i right?

Which you can't argue against. But if you go by this way of thinking, we need to declare war against the majority of the WORLD. If Saddam has shown one thing in the last 12 years, it was that he was VERY predictable. What the hell did he pull off that made him so unpredictable?

cock-up Noun. A mess, a shambles.
Verb. To make a mistake, to ruin. E.g."I've cocked up again and my wife's left with the kids."
