View Full Version : Audio CD locking up my PC

I've never seen anything like this, but I have this music cd that every single time I go to put it in the cd drive the entire computer locks up. If I eject the cd the computer returns to normal. I can put any other cd in, but this one has issues.
The only thing I can see on the cover it says "enhanced CD" and I see a macromedia logo on it, but aside from that it should be able to work and play.
Does anyone know of a way to stop the cd from loading or trying to do whatever it's trying to do? I have Windows XP. Normally I'm good with technical things, but this one is strange.

I've experienced this. Sounds like a damaged or scratched disc.
Also, it's possible your computer can't read that type of CD, but that's only in the case that you're computer's very old (which I assume isn't the case, since you said you're running XP.)

I have a Pentium III which is fairly new. I also tried it in the cd burner and got the same thing. I'll try it on my other pc which is a Win98 pc and see if it works there.

Firebomb Dell for selling you an inferior machine. If its not a Dell, firebomb them anyway for letting you buy a bad computer and not selling you a fine Dell computer

i recently had problems with my Dell... i had a DVD and Burner in it running Win/98... they ran together fine for a few months...
next thing you know i go to My Computer and it doesn't display either of the drives (What The!)
After booting it came up with "secondary hard drive not found, hit F1 to continue F2 for Setup"
after about 12 hours on/off of troubleshooting, changing IDE cable, moving SL/MA/CS jumper position around, i took the burner out. I put it in my other Dell and experienced the same problem. Figure it was the burner(Why! Who Knows)
strange: in SETUP for Secondary IDE I had AUTO and NONE but the DVD and Burner worked for a few months. A friend of mine who is considered the GOD of Pc's said it was impossible with the NONE setting...
He told me to go to XP but I learned you can't convert your files so I'm staying with 98 for now...
