View Full Version : Screaming "O" at Orioles Game Debacle...
DC Reed

Apperantly, some people find this offensive, especially during war time, here's what i wrote in on the situation at www.dcrtv.com
This debacle about screaming "O" has gone to far. For those who support it, kudos, your correct, it's your way of exercising your freedom of speech. For the people who think it is dis-respectful or unpatriotic, you obviously don't understand that the "Star Spangled Banner" has been defaced by numerous 1 hit-wonders, flavor of the month's and celebrities. Don't agree with me? Watch Roseanne's angelic renedition and enjoy it, then you can tell anyone what they can and can't say during the national anthem. DC Reed Signing Out. (4/8/03)
So how do you feel, should people yell things out during the national anthem? After "And the land of the free.." I yell Damn Right! Is that wrong? Debate now.

How long is that song, two minutes? Are you (Not YOU, Reed, the universal "you") that much of a dick you can't shut up for two minutes?

If this was a new thing I might take offense, but I grew
up in Maryland and they've been doing this at Orioles
games as long as I can remember. I don't think anyone
who does it means it as disrespectful. It's just a local
custom. I just think its a way to show pride in your
country as well as pride in youir local roots.
I remember Mar Chapin Carpenter singing the anthem
at a Redskins game, and she's a local girl, so she
worked a pause into the song and pumped hir fist
during the O.
Now, if you do it in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium
before an Orioles game, you're gonna get your ass
beat.

Stand up, take your hat off and be quite.... thats what I do even as almost every rendition of the national anthem gets totally butchered. Haven't hear a good one in a long time...

after 9/11 at the Caps Season opener, everybody sang, the mic went out on the guy in the MCI centre, but my dad told me that he could hear everyone singing with him, he was at home watching the game on TV.
THen afterwords the screams, FUCK THE TALIBAN came out, and its a hockey game so i think its kinda acceptable, cause we then told the devils they Blew, Sucked and that broduer's wife was a tramp, (Devs 2 Caps 5, in 2001 season)

I have always felt it wrong and disrespectful even before 9/11. I have always stood up taken my hat off and sung along, until i realized i was the ONLY one. Then after 9/11, everybody else began singing again and i am so happy.
As for throwing in the "O", save that for later. Add team-specific lines to the 7 inning stretch. the pirates have changed "root root root for the home team" with "root root root for the pirates". Thats acceptable

I think there's nothing better than hearing "RANGERS SUCK" right after the phrase "...the land of the free"

For Wayne Gretzky's last game, John Amirante actually sang "o'er the land of Wayne Gretzky/and the home of the brave."
That was a bit much.
And oh yeah, I'd like to fuck Janet Jones.
Mr. Corleone is Johnny's Godfather. To the Italian people, that is a very religious, sacred, close relationship.
I was at the Final Four the last two years Maryland was there and when their fans yelled "O" everyone was puzzled.
It's a Maryland thing...you wouldn't understand.

You forgot the highest rate of heroin addiction as well
at orioles games it is just something that they do and have done for years, however i do think its a bit much when those same fans do it at Redskin Games (and im sure they do it at the Baltimore Ravens as well)

what bugs me more iare people with their "artistic rendition" of the national anthem - is the fricking national anthem people - sing it as close to the original as possible. Is it nice that Mariah or Whitney can hold a note for 45 seconds - yes - is it apropriate to change the anthem for them?
NO

Yeah but Whitney Houstons rendition at the Superbowl in '92 was friggin phenomonal because we were at war-I would actually her rendition at the Super Bowl was great
that is until she sued Pro Set for using her on one of their football cards that year

I hate the artistic rendition of any song. If you're not going to sing the damn song right then don't sing it at all.
I'm still pissed at Luther Vandross' raping of my childhood with his rendition of "one shining moment" on Monday.

the way i look at it is, how would i feel if they made us stop saying "the rangers suck" in the middle of the chicken dance at islander games...so i say let the fans have their say, i mean its not like they arent acknowleding the anthem, they're just rooting for their team.

Alright, just for the record, if THIS doesn't bother you, yet you went apeshit over the stupid girl that turned her back on the flag, you better start doing the "hippo"-dance...
This is even worse because instead of being a moron trying to make a point for something you believe in, you're just being a moron, period. A bunch of fuckin' savages in this town...

You should tell an adult about that.
The fact that O's fans yell "O" is bad enough, but those retards yell it at any and all sporting events they can, that is just downright retarded. Frankly, Ballmeris a big reason to be ashamed of being from this state. The other two being montgomery county and garret county
