I recently ordered a package from eBay which is coming from Hong Kong, it should be here any day now. how concerned should I be about SARS and is there anything I can do to safeguard myself?

I'd assume a simple dust mask might help things...can you "air out" a disease by letting the thing sit outside? Boil it? I really have no clue how SARS might be carried in a package, if at all...I mean, if it's not airtight, as most packages aren't, then I'd think people would be being infected by SARS all over the place...

Do a google search for "SARS" and "contagious" and you will get a whole bunch of sites on this, go figure :)

GWEN, no one knows for sure how SARS is transmitted or even if it's bacterial or viral. The only thing that is known (reported by Chinese scientists) is that people with chlomydia seem more suseptible to getting it and passing it on.

To my knowledge, viruses cannot live for long outside of their hosts, so by the time you recieve the package all should be ok.

chlomydia be damned, i'm not really worried about it. only 4% of people who get it die from it. let it thin the herd a bit.

true, it is alot of people..... but still i like those odds. besides, if the statistics are right... the population doubles about every 32 years. we could use the extra time.
