These days, the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Avril Lavigne just to name a few get mass marketed and shoved in everyones faces.

Their songs dont have the depth and meaning like Roberta Flack, Patti Labelle and Anita Bakers songs did. All 3 that i listed had amazing voices and great songs

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

I've always felt that Sheryl Crow had a great voice that went underappreciated.

Cyndi Lauper. And no, I'm not kidding. The chick had a
four octave vocal range. Time after Time still makes me
cry when I hear it.

If you are going to add to this thread please abide by the title. Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt should have gotten more recognition??? Too often people take a thread and mold it into something that better suits what they would like to add.

Definitely Jill Scott. Her voice is so powerful, that when I hear it, I get chills. Also, totally love the duet she and Moby did with Blue Man Group during the Grammys.

I only meant that she doesn't seem to get enough credit as a "singer".

Christine Mcvie from Fleetwood Mac -- Songbird is such a beautiful song.

Chrissie Hynde is a great singer also and she looks so good.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

I recently picked up the new Dar Willams CD. Not usually my style, but I was very impressed.

Leona Naess has two great CD's out.

The best though is Mazzy Star. Whatever the lead singer's name is.
