View Full Version : Getting kids' songs stuck in your head

One of the downsides of having a small child is that the
music that they listen to is specifically designed to get
stuck in your head. Currently, "Sister Sufragette" from
Mary Poppins is bouncing around in my skull and I can't
get it out.
What kids' songs drive you nuts like this?

"No. daddy please! I don't like it when you touch me there!"
That's always been a favorite of mine.

I remember a similar song when I was in Catholic school: "No. Father please! I don't like it when you touch me there!"

The worst, absolute worst song that ever got stuck in
my head was from this awful video that was to help
teach my kids how wonderful it was to use the damn
potty. The kids LOVED the video, and watched it over
and over and over...
The most horrific song in the world, and the chorus,
"Now I'm going to the potty, potty; yes I'm going to the
potty, potty" etc. I found myself humming and singing
that goddamned song over and over again for months.
I even dreamed about the song. Thank god they
finally learned to use the potty, potty.
And now it's stuck in my head again. Thanks a big old
buttload, mikeyboy, for making me think of it again.

This one was the one that always got in my head:
John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt
His name is my name, too!
When ever we go out, the people always shout
There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
(quietly sing)
John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt
His name is my name, too!
When ever we go out, the people always shout
(loudly sing)
There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
(whisper)
John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt
His name is my name, too!
When ever we go out, the people always shout
(loudly sing)
There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da!!

I just bought "Sesame Street Kid's Favorite Songs" on CD for my 14 month old and noticed that they changed the lyrics on that song.
I guess a little ditty about the black plague can't be made palatable...even by a singing Muppet.
