a little long. Bear with me.
When I first heard that the Ron and Fez show had a message board online where fans of the show can chat about the show and other topics, I was very curious to check it out. Now, mind you, I am not the most computer literate person in the world. My daily computer skills consist of turning on the drive, the monitor, my DSL box, signing on to DSL and going on the internet (in that order). I was a frequent visitor of this site way before I ever registered an account. I enjoyed reading many of the topics posted by some of the members of this site without needing to respond. Even after I registered in January 2002, I didn't feel comfortable posting anything. I wasn't sure if I'd fit in, if I'd come across as a jerk, or if I'd piss anyone off. Now mind you, I never really visited Opie and Anthony.com. I went straight to RonFez.net. But I felt very comfortable quickly. Most of the members here made my stay a good one when I posted or responded. I found the site to be very well handled and presented by the Mods and Administrators. I found myself visiting it a lot more often as time went on.
After Opie and Anthony were cancelled I felt a little bit more of a connection here. Because whether I was at home or at work, I always tried my best to have my radio tuned to 102.7 to hear Ron and Fez (at whatever timeslot they were placed) and to hear O & A. I even had my Big Ass Card on me at all times in my wallet. I've called the R & F show a few times to take part in the Comedy Pyramids. But I would always check out the message board for various subjects. Whether it was discussing the show, wrestling, sports, or movies, I always felt like I was escaping from everyday life for awhile. Especially during the 9/11 tragedy. When I couldn't watch television anymore due to all of harsh realities of this world, I turned to RonFez.net.
But lately, I don't know what the heck has happened. Ron and Fez were taken off the New York airwaves, WNEW changed formats completely, and our great country has been going through a war. I understand that emotions run high and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it seems that things are getting a little out of hand.
First we had a little character named Frank Black making some of us laugh and some of us groan (myself included). That was fine. He has since vanished. We had someone named Gluck step up to a challenge and nearly shut down this message board. But thus far the Mods have prevailed. And last but not least, we've had some very heated discussions in a new room called the Politics and Current Events. We've seen some harsh words exchanged and some vacations distributed. I believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it seems to have gotten personal lately. I admit, I don't know exactly what went on between Horde King and YerDaddy, and now between HK and TooCute. And I'm really not interested what happened. It's not my business. I don't involve political views, religious views, or race views with my posts. I visit this board to escape everyday life. I enjoy talking about wrestling with the knowledgeable fans on this site. I enjoy seeing and posting funny pictures on this site. I enjoy playing mindless games like the First/Last name game or the infamous PAYT game. I love talking about baseball, hockey, movies, music and anything else that takes my mind off of the everyday problems that life deals you. I visit this site before reading a newspaper or before turning on the news. I don't need to be reminded of the horrors of this world. I come here simply to escape for a little while. I have made what I consider a few friends that I speak to regularly online. I'd like to think that most of them don't mind my insanity. But the bottom line is, to quote Billy Joel, I come here to forget about life for awhile. Even though my wife thinks I post too much. :)
I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks!
