Being a kid and waiting that once a month or so for SNL to take a break.

The Hogan/Mr. Wonderful Steel Cage Match that ended in a tie and had to be restarted, was just one of the classic moments.

Please refresh my memory.
I know just a few more references will bring me back.

And none of that crap of when they moved it to Friday Night. I know the Hogan/Andre the Giant with the Hebner twins and Ted Dibease happened on the first Friday night Main Event but just Saturday Night Main Events if we could.

PRAY FOR THE BRAVE ONES!!!!

Later On,
SHECKY

Ahhh. The Saturday night memories.

-The Mother's Day debut. Nothing like seeing the Junkyard Dog dancing in the ring with his mom.

-Uncle Elmer's wedding. The best part was the bride getting pegged in the head by an object and Jesse Ventura pointing it out and laughing. This episode also features Hulk Hogan shining his boots with the Russian flag after beating Nikolai Volkoff. Also on this one, Mean Gene finds George Steele living in a jungle.

-The classic Halloween party including Roddy Piper dressed up as Superman hitting on Elizabeth. This party ended with the always funny pie fight.

-The "fun in the sun" episode which saw Junkyard Dog and Jimmy Hart in a waterslide contest and George Steele rolling around like a seal in water playing with his rubber duckie.

-The night Hulk Hogan was ambushed by King Kong Bundy and Don Muraco. He was carried out of the ring as if he was dead. But not dead enough to miss his MSG lumberjack match with Randy Savage a few days later. This was way before the internet and spoilers. So it made no sense that after the Sat. night show was shown, it was treated like a live show when it wasn't.

-During a match between Hogan and Junkyard Dog verses Terry and Hoss (Dory Jr.) Funk, the Haiti Kid gets ambushed by Jimmy Hart. This was one of the sickiest sights on wrestling television ever. And that's saying something. Also on the show, a nightgown wearing Adorable Adrian Adonis gets nearly stripped by Paul Orndorff. A packed show that also featured Adonis serenading to a lifesize cardboard cutout of Orndorff and Uncle Elmer's fried pig parts!

-More fun with Adonis as he runs in during a Hogan-Orndorff match. He was dressed as a woman and sitting in the front row for the entire match before he ran in. As Jesse Ventura yelled "Look, some fat sweathog is climbing over the railing. Hogan just hit the fat sweathog.", a freshly turned babyface Roddy Piper attacks Adrian with a crutch as he and Hogan do that "new good guy, should I trust you?" stare.

-During a match with Hercules Hernandez, the camera accidently shows Hogan saying he submits to the backbreaker. Ventura cries foul and the screwjob is invented.

-The classic double ending to the Hogan-Orndorff cage match.

-The British Bulldogs pin the tag team champs, the Hart Foundation in the 3rd of a 2 out of 3 fall match. But the Harts were DQ'ed in the second fall, so the Bulldogs don't get the titles.

-The introduction of the Mega Powers as Hogan saves Randy Savage from a beating from the Honkytonk man and the Hart Foundation as a young lad named SuperClerk marks out. But not before we are treated to an on air beating of a woman as Elizabeth gets shoved to the ground by HTM. Somewhere, a young Francine grabs her neck.

-During a match between Hogan and "King" Harley Race, Race dives head first through a table thus ending his in ring career. If you look closely, you can see Hat guy standing and screaming "E-C-DUB, E-C-DUB!"

-Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson pin tag team champs, Demolition in the 3rd of a 2 out of 3 fall match. But Demolition were DQ'ed in the second fall, and Tully and Arn still win the titles anyway. Bret Hart cries that Vince screwed the Bulldogs!!!!

-"The Genius" Lanny Poffo defeats champ Hulk Hogan by countout while "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig destroys the belt with a hammer. Legend has it that that belt was one of the early Hardcore belts that the WWF used. During this match, Poffo works out a math problem that he somehow uses to try defeat Hogan. 78 x E4/b + 4312 x 1333.98 = Defeat Hulk Hogan. Or something like that.

Ahh, the age of the pre-internet wrestling mark. How I miss these lonley Saturday nights.

Wow, that's one hell of a recap Superclerk. However, I make two small additions.

The first one being the greatest spot in Saturday Night's Main Event history, and hands down, the most underrated spot in WWF history. Hogan suplexes the Big Bossman off the top of the cage! It's still breathtaking to see this one, and never gets any real play, but given Ray Traylor's size, it was probably as much as a personal risk as either of Foley's bumps off the cage that are legendary.

And in a case of the same program, but different nights, don't forget the Friday Night "Main Events", the first one which despite all the ballywhoo that goes on, REALLY ended Hulkamania, when Andre used the hook suplex and beat the Hulkster, thanks to the "evil Hebner". As a 10 year old Hogan hater, I popped so big when Finkel bellowed the trademark "And NEEEEEEWWWWWWWW World Wrestling Federation Champion, Andre The Giant". Oh man I was so pumped to see those tears in Hogan's eyes, as Hulkamania was dead! I pop for the Hulkster now, but I couldn't stand him holding back Steamboat(something I could tell was going on a 10 year old mark). I know it's all a work, and I know he just "relinquished" the belt( a most dubious ruling by Tunney, shouldn't Andre have been allowed to keep the belt?) but I felt good that after all those years of service and great work, Andre did go down in the record books as a WWF champion. And since we all know Hogan didn't get the shoulder up after the first failed slam at Wrestlemania III, this reign was a year overdue. And don't forget the next year when the "Megapowers" exploded prior to Wrestlemania 5. Hogan and Savage vs. Akeem and Bossman.

And thanks for the great memories of that Bulldog match when they got screwed out of the titles. I marked out like crazy, as the Dogs were and probably still are my favorite tag team ever and I couldn't believe they didn't get the belts. But I do have a recollection of Santana being invovled, and I remember Dynamite was a health question mark at the time. Was it possible it was Sananta and Davey Boy against the Harts that night? I know this was all leading up to the WM III match w/ the Dogs and Chico vs. The Harts and Danny Davis. So I guess Santana may have been chilling at ringside, but I don't recall.

And as for SNME overall, what a great show, especially for a little kid. They didn't go out of their way to promote the show on the syndicated shows in most cases(Savage vs. Honky being a major exception), and it always seemed like every so often, you'd flip on SNL as a kid and then hear that trademark "Obsession" theme and go fucking nuts like it was Christmas morning. A free night of actual matches not involving Scott Casey, Brady Boone, Barry O or Mike Sharpe.

PS, I just thought of one more memory. The first time Hogan and Andre locked horns in the "new" WWF(re: not the pre-83 stuff), was also on the SNME featuring the battle royal that I believe was pre Wrestlemania III. There was actually a pretty cool dramatic staredown where all the "superstars" parted the waters between Hogan and Andre in separate corners and they walked and met in a staredown that was fairly dramatic. Not an over the top classic moment, but definately way cool for a free TV first time clash between the two biggest stars in the Wrestling universe. And another markout moment goes down as Andre grabs those golden locks from behind, lands two head butts and heaves Bollea over the ropes and treats him like a piece of trash.

Andre, the king of the battle royal, who "never lost one", was cleaning house, but if memory serves, Jake the Snake was starting his mini-feud, heaved Damien into the ring, and Andre flipped out, elminating himself by going over the top rope, and got out of dodge. And to anyone not in the know, this is from whence Fezzie's "Snakes???" segment of his Andre The Giant impression emerges from.

Sorry Shecky, I missed the part about no Friday Nights Main Event memories, but I think i got the only possible ones anyone could have out of the way, and it's impossible to talk main event but ignore them. They are part of the family.

And I think Shellebink is the hottest thing on two legs!

Holy shit. I can't believe that I forgot about some of those Naitch. The Andre-Snake "heart attack" angle was classic. Watching Andre lay in the mat and squirm was priceless. The real historic thing about this angle was that it was one of the first programs that Andre the Giant worked with who wasn't named Hogan, Studd, or Savage.

-It was Bobby Heenan who indeed said the pinapple juice remark about Steamboat.

-Jake Roberts was also involved in one of the first heel verses heel matches that the WWF gave us. He wrestled Randy Savage to a draw in the winter of 1986.

It's all good NatureBoy.

We know Vince wanted to move SNME to Fridays as an attempt to put wrestling at a prime time slot, but only succeeded with the Hogan Andre match. All the others were pretty much shitty.

Dynamite was a health question mark at the time

I think he was a health question mark for the enitre title reign. I remember on a SNME right after WM2, the Bulldogs defended against Iron Sheik and Nikolia Volkoff in a 2 out of 3 fall match. Dynamite submitted to the Camel Clutch in a matter of seconds into the match. Mcmahon and Heenan were saying how Dynamite was injured. So he was probably injured the whole time. I think what sealed it was the sick bump he took off the top rope when he collided with Greg Valentine at WM2. He fell from the top rope to the floor. It was a scary looking spot that didn't look like it was supposed to happen. He never even made it to the ring after the match to celebrate, so you knew that something went wrong.

This was on "The Main Event". When the Megapowers exploded. Savage attacked Hogan in the medical room and a shirt wearing Brutus Beefcake accidently showed himself on camera before he was supposed to. A minute later he returned to help Hogan, only this time he was not wearing a shirt. Holy shit. I was fooled. I didn't notice the fuck up. LOL :)
