Who the fuck listens to The Donnas and why won't they go away?

Seriously, I hated them when they were little girls putting out Ramones albums, when they were teeangers putting out Kiss albums, and I still hate them as young adults putting out Motley Crue albums. Why them? Why now? Why me?

Are people afraid of admitting how shitty this band really is? This is horribly boring pseudo glam rock with the most repetitive and undistinguishable vocals I have ever heard. Can you find a difference between one Donna's song and another? I can't. If I hear another poorly and blandly written rock riff with this girl "singing" in that same vocal phrasing and key like she does in every other 300 songs, I'm gonna kill a small child. How long can these kids put the same record out over and over? I guess this was cute a few years ago when they were young and all wore the same thing and that old dude wrote all their songs. This is like a novelty that's lost its charm. This is not cute anymore. If this were a band of dudes writing these lyrics such as: "Spendin every night in a different state, spending every night with a different date, I come into town and have a look around, and then I find somebody who wants to get down" I would be disgusted and write them off with every other ultra wack "rock" band fascinated with the whole "we're just rock n' roll" revival bullshit. Fuck that. Fuck "rock". Fuck Kiss. I hate Kiss. Who the fuck likes Kiss? Geeks do. Geeks and fat Midwestern trailer trash. If I wanna listen to really bad glam metal, I'll listen to Trixter or some shit. Why do we need the Donna's? "Cos... like... it's different dude... these are like... girls." NO! Go Listen to the Runaways or some shit. Fuck, even Vixen is better than this shit.

From the 1st time i ever saw them (in that piece of filth movie Jawbreaker) i instantaneously hated them. Not even that i hate the fact that everyone thinks they are so "original" why? I do.

I have been a fan for some time since the Teenage Rock & Roll Machine days. Honestly, I love the new record and think it is quite a progression. I was also bred on KISS in the late 70's when I was a little fuck and I also grew up during the heydey (or towards the end) of the glam era and this takes me back. It doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks (to me at least) about them casue hey, I like it. Meh.

I am a bit bummed at the status of them getting airplay because as with a few other bands (AFI, Queens, Alk3 {forthcoming}) who are also getting some good amounts of airplay these days, I don't want to share. And yes, I know I can keep The Donnas for myself and will enjoy doing it thank you.

I stopped listening when I heard the dick from The Offspring singing in the background somewhere.

I do think that the more original band members these guys lose, their sound and songwriting suffers. I guess they don't TOTALLY emulate the Misfits or whatever. If that was true, by now after all the lineup changes, Davey would've renamed this band "Havok". The Misfits had so many different elements that made them a great band. Why is it that the new school bands only seem to be interested in the "woah woah's" and stop there? Sure, "woah woah's" can be cool if used tastefully. But in every freakin' song, it makes me want to kick somebody in the balls and give them something to really say "woah" about.

I guess in the end I really have no opinion on AFI, except The Offsrping connection is a BIG hurt, I could tolerate them when they were faceless, bland "hardcore" kids, the new band members look like they came from Good Charlotte, and Davey now looks like a girl.

Black Sails in the Sunset started me into AFI so I was born there. Going back and listening to the previous records not so much on Answer That... but towards Shut Your Mouth and then especially with the following AFI EP they were progressivly heading in that direction.

I felt so much more of a Misfits presence on Drowning than any other one so far. Sorrow has so much more of a weird hybrid of glam metal, electronica and their former Black Sails selves.

Honestly, I was a bit nauseous when I heard some of the tracks off of Sorrow but I has grown on me and they have grown as a band. I still love them but not the 14 year old girls carrying the little AFI metal coffin purses. THAT makes me want to vomit. It was great seeing them for the first time a few years back with Sick Of It All and Hot Water Music.

In some cases, it is nice to see a band grow, in some others more often than not, it is not good to see growth. All a matter of opinion. Meh.

Oh yeah, and as far as the Dexter thing goes, they were on his label (Nitro) so maybe it was just a friends thing. He actually told them to go ahead and seek out a major label deal because he felt that they were a bit bigger than Nitro and deserved to be on a major. Believe it if you will.

the donnas are the new hip chik band like hole was for about 3mins but the memory of cortney love getting naked and pissing on stage is burned into my retina everytime i try to go to sleep. God please kill me...what where was i? i personally cant stand that every 10 min in a ROk blok had a donna comercial that some how makes them suk more then there music but if there is a god they will fade away like all of todays modern 1 album wonder bands. hopefully in a couple years and some intensive theropy the memroy of the shity chik band will be gone form everyone's mind except the hardcore lesbo comunity that stil go to melisa ethelridge concerts.(rembmer her :) cause i sure as hell dont thank god.)

It's all relative. I know plenty of people can't stand the new push of "garage rock" bands, but I love it. People act like it came out of nowhere, ignoring the fact that garage NEVER went away. Groups like The Makers, The Gories, The Mummies, The Milkshakes, Thee Mighty Headcoats, Thee Mighty Caesars, White Stripes, The Make-Up, The Hives and Soundtrack of our lives have been around for years, some more than ten years now. But if people want to hate it and plunge themselves into mook-thrash metal or nu-emo mush, go right ahead. Give me someone like BRMC any day.

Of course, right now I'm on a Charlatans (UK) binge, so that throws EVERYTHING out of whack.

I was actually agreeing that people have impossibly different music tastes...I then brought the example of garage rock, which a lot of people hate and think it's a "new fad", which I countered by listing bands I've been listening to for years that are steeped in the "garage sound". They had nothing to do with The Donnas or how the "mainstream" is awful...I love plenty of bands that sell millions of albums...but The Donnas just suck, period. Les Claypool is probably one of the best bassists/musicians I have ever heard. One of the most underrated bands as well.

I remember hearing Frizzle Fry and being very VERY annoyed while I was awaiting GWAR to come out and play but for some reason the songs just stuck in my head. As I now sing To Many Puppies to myself it will be stuck there for the next week at least.
