The three siblings arrested and then released in the stabbing death of an East Village nightclub bouncer who asked them to comply with the city's new anti-smoking law are the children of a notorious Chinatown gang leader imprisoned on a federal murder charges, police said.


Why were these suspects released? Lack of evidence? Fuck that.

I'm mad as hell about this. The victim was African-American. The suspects are Chinese. If the victim was Chinese and the suspects African-American, it would be a different story.

And now it turns out that their father is a fucking gangster?! Lock them up NOW!

I get the impression that the media is playing this down because they don't want to start a race riot between the Chinese and the African-Americans.

In any event, the picture of these smug siblings (2 brothers and a sister) in the NY Post has me raging.

It seems to me that if the victim was the son of a prominent white man, the suspects would most likely remain in custody.

Furthermore, if the suspects were black, they would be presumed guilty until proven innocent.

you're right on all counts. but blacks being treated unjustly is nothing new. and prominent white men will usually get their way. but at the same time, EVERYONE knows these 3 are guilty of something. i think we're all shocked they've been let go, but its certainly has nothing to do with the fact that they're chinese. i'm sure we wont hear the end of it.

and yes, the media's trying to pin some of the blame on bloomberg's new law. it sucks that they have to use someone's death to do it, but tactics like this is old hat for journalists.

TooCute, this seems to imply that if the suspects (or should I say "original suspects") were not Chinese, I would not be upset in the least.

The fact of the matter is that the race of the suspects means nothing to me. It makes no difference to me if the suspects are black, white, yellow, red, or purple.

What bothers me is this: these suspects played no small part in this incident. They were released way too soon.

We could go on forever about this, but I want to emphasize the following: I am not anti-Chinese, anti-Asian, or anti-anyone.

If this was "thelawjournal.com", I would not be so candid in expressing my gut reaction to this horrible incident.

I don't know all of the details. However, if the press reports are even slightly accurate, their actions contributed to the violence.
