5 Justin Credible

Wow I can honestly say that I didn't see that one coming. I think EvilPete might be the first person in the history of the world to think Justin Credible has the 5th best mic skills of all time. But I do agree with Shane and Raven being 1 and 2. but I think they might be tied. No one cuts better promos than they do. especially when The Franchise goes on his 2 1/2 minute rambling of obscenities.

What are you guys thinking with your lists?

Here is the definitive collection:

1. Ric Flair(never relyed on catch phrases, though he did use them. Different promo every time)

2. The Rock(did rely and overuse catch pharses, but was so damn awesome otherwise, who can blame him. Very close 2nd, top 2 are in their own league)

3. Roddy Piper(more or less invented the cool heel in his WWF days, so good on the stick, they gave him his own segment, since copied ad nasuem. True genius on the mic, and still has got it as his Smackdown work shows)

4.Raven(The high flyers made you tune to ECW, but Raven is what kept you coming back each week)

5.Steve Austin(he's fallen off since coming back from the neck injury, but from the ECW run up until Rikishi ran him over, he was in the ballpark with Rock. Such a breath of fresh air, and my favorite all time promo remains Austin running down WWF God(at the time) Bret Hart choice of ringwear("Pink and Black tights, what a bunch of crap")

6.Dusty Rhodes(fat southern disgrace, but I'll be damned if he couldn't talk his ass off. Always got you funky like a monkey building up to the big match)

7.Hulk Hogan(similar to Rhodes, but even more cookie cutter in his promos. But the bottom line is, Hogan on the mic can, did and still works people into a frenzy. They said Flair could have a 5 star match with a mop, but Hogan could talk about that kind of match and get you to buy a PPV it'd be so huge. Nicely cememented by the nWo work too)

8. Jim Cornette(another master of the promo, great at attracting vitriol and laughs from the old studio 8-A in Georgia)

9.Mick Foley(could carry whole segements, and also deserves probs for shying away from catch phraseology. Long winded at times, and basically is only this low due to the unfunny commishioner days. But don't forget his Cactus Jack promos when considering him, as he was as legitmately vicious as he was eventually cuddly after some of those matches)

10. Jake "The Snake" Roberts(a bit of an oddball choice, but mic skills don't always mean the ability to be loud, being quiet is even more effective some times and this spooky bastard would scare you into coming out to the arena)

11. Shane Douglas(I meant to cap this at 10, but how can you forget the franchise? Really got people going back in the day and seems to be the blueprint that HHH is following, much more than Ric Flair)

Honorable mentions:

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
ECW Dudleys
Randy "Macho Man" Savage
Luscious Johnny Valiant
New Jack
The Fabulous Rogeaus
Scott Hall

I'll accept the crazy tag for Hogan, though I disagree with it. The bottom line of the Hulkster is that he made money with his mouth, and made a match with Killer Khan or the One Man Gang seem like something you should use actual money to go see, something that otherwise wouldn't occur. I could definately how see how this would be my personal preference, but I do think it's in small part due to a general Hogan bias. But I'll concede I may be overrating him.

But I"m vexed and perplexed by the lack of love for my namesake, Ric Flair. The guy was a whirling dirvish on the mic, and decades ahead of his time. How can you neglect his skills with the stick?

1. Ric Flair(never relyed on catch phrases, though he did use them. Different promo every time)

You really can't say that. Because he relied on "Come take a ride on Space Mountain" and the whole WHOOOOO. Those are basically the same as Catch Phrases.

1.) Shane Douglas
2.) Raven
3.) Joel Gertner (The Quintesential Studmuffin himself)
4.) The Rock
5.) Austin (The greatest promo of all time was when he won the King of the Ring.)
6.) Roddy Piper
7.) Vince Russo
8.) Bret Hart

1. Piper- to me, mic skills meant nothing until he came along, the man that made a wrestler being able to speak a HUGE credential

2. Flair- very, very, very close between him and piper

3. Douglas- can anyone think of someone who stirred the real life shit better than shane?

4. Rock- hes just really really good.

5. Jericho- not because of the stupid ass catchphrases he uses in WWE but look back at his feud with Malenko in WCW and tell me that you didnt laugh so i can call you a liar.

6. Raven- pretty much invented the dark introverted promo

7. Foley- for the E and C skits alone

8. Gertner- one of my favorite commentators of all time

9. ECW Dudley's- ive never seen a wrestlers cause riots like they did, NEVER

10. Hogan- hes my ten because he made his money on the mic just like NB said, but i just cannot stack him above the guys ive got here.

Honorable Mention:

Joey Styles
Bobby Heenan
Larry Zbysko
Paul Heyman
Steve Austin
Kurt Angle

Gotta agree with Naitch on this one. How can you folks not have Ric Flair on your lists? I agree with your complete list Naitch. I think Rick Rude should get an honorable mention also. Rude was responsible for one of my favorite lines in NWA in the 80's: "I feel great and look even better. I make a cashmere sweater look like a burlap sack." And how come nobody else mentioned Mick Foley? His ECW "Christmas with the Foley's" promo still is one of my all time favorites.

1. Flair-he's the king, anyone who works himself into a near heart attack gets #1
2. Raven-made me watch WCW for a long time and the only reason i started watching ECW, and i'm glad i did
3. Jericho-I think his days as WCW cruiserweight champion were his best, with him checking the rulebook and such. I still will not accept any WWE portrayal of him.....

Honorable mentions
Franchise
The Rock
Austin's Bret Hart feuding days
Owen Hart-I don't know maybe it's just because i was young, but he always striked me as really good on the mic and he always seemed like one of the most vibrant character in the WWF

So strange you mention this Super, he was on the list, but I figured I was getting out of hand and he was definately a guy who by and large cut the same promo every time. But that one promo was so good, generated so much heat, I was thisclose to putting him on, and I probably should have in retrospect. He was definately on the brain though!
