Dave, Do you have any numbers on Ron and Fez? I know their numbers have to go up over the junkies. I hear so many more different voices on that show than the Junkies ever had. Don't get me wrong I like the Junkies and I wish them all the best on HFS and in the future. I am just curious about what Ron and Fez and how they are doing. Good job to WARW for increasing their ratings. Thanks, Gary in Springfield (4/23/03)
Dave's response: JFK-FM ranks a rather sorry 19th place in the age 12+ demo on weeknights from 7 PM to midnight. That's down from 3rd place last spring, with the Junks. Among the 25-54 demo, it does a tiny bit better - 18th, but that's still way down from the Junks' 2nd place last spring. You know, what's frustrating about JFK-FM is that it could be such a killer station if it weren't for its INCREDIBLY INEPT management. The station also dropped from 1st (D&M) to 14th (O'Reilly) in middays (25-54), and 16th among the overall 12+ demo, again, down from 1st or 2nd with D&M last spring/summer. Send O'Reilly packing. He's wrong for the station!!!!! Move the Junks back to evenings. Move R&F to middays and promote the hell out of them. Running reruns and infomercials on the weekends shows CONTEMPT for the listeners. DIG THIS - JFK didn't even place among the top 20 stations in the 12+ or 25-54 demo for weekends!!! They do WORSE than WAVA, for Christ's sake. Utter morons (not Mormons) run JFK-FM.....
Sorry to have to report this but I sent this message to DCRTV. Alan Lynwand (sp) needs to seriously look at the station and promote his shows and stop making a mockery of the weekends. Losing to the religous station is ridiculous.
I know that we have more people listening to Ron and Fez than did the Junkies. Come on everyone in DC spread the word. We need to get the word out about the show. If WJFK won't advertise than we have to do it to make this show successful.
Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

Ok, DC Listeners. you don't want to be like us, the NY listeners, and lose Ron and Fez do you?
Well, then get off your asses and promote the show, tell friends and have them tell friends, or just go around with a frigging bull horn.
By all mean, you do not want to lose the boys. We have lost them and now the radio has become useless.

I'm just curious, because I have NO access whatsoever to the show, did they discuss their ratings in depth on air? To their credit, I've never heard them do that...
Also to their credit, they weened me off the glass tit, aka TV. There was a war on, though.

I have never really heard Ron and Fez talk about ratings on the air.
I did hear that Mel Karmazin will be making a tour of the DC stations.
"I see no evidence that by combining eight radio stations under a market manager, and having that market manager walk into an advertising agency, it has generated top-line revenue growth," Viacom President/COO Mel Karmazin (pictured) said yesterday as he discussed his company's Q1 results. "In fact, I can show you that it hasn't generated top-line revenue growth." Lamenting how Infinity Radio was the only segment of Viacom's business to post a revenue decline, Karmazin insisted Viacom will do whatever it takes to turn around the division's performance.
Hopefully Mel can kick some ass in DC. Let's hope.
Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

I know a lot of people do not Don and Mike but they were just promoting Ron and Fez and are encourging everyone to give the boys a listen and they both want the show to succeed.
So you can hate them all you want at least they are being positive about Ron and Fez.

on...most people are watching TV...
It's a crappy slot (only one step above overnights) but
it is possible to succeed. I believe R&F's best numbers
on WNEW were on the 7-11 slot following O&A. Also,
the Junkies did well enough in that slot to get
promoted to mornings on WHFS (keep in mind that this
was a sports show competing, for the most part,
against televised live sports).
I caught the first couple of minutes of D and M today,
and heard something about how they were tanking in
Philly...
What does this have to do with R&F? They aren't on in
Philly, so whether or not D&M succeed in Philly is
irrelevant right now. The fact is that D&M is a
juggernaut in DC and a great lead-in for R&F. D&M ain't
my cup of tea, but as long as they support R&F and
encourage people to listen, I can''t say a bad thing
about them.

that rating stuff is so slanted shit anyway, it depends on who gets picked to do ratings.. It's an stupid ass way to rate shows, they need to come up with something better, I dont know what that could be, but I'm sure in this day and age, something else could be done, Ron and fez are growing in DC and will do very well, better then the stupid junkies, who i use to like, but now can just fuck off.. I even would bet anything Ron and Fez in NY got huge ratings, but the shit didn't show. fuck arbitron

Man, I've been getting people hooked on it left and right...my employees, my friends, my roommates...GO UP, DAMMIT.
But in the end, I'm not really that worried...the cotinued existence of the Junkies shows that WJFK IS willing to stick with a show and give it a shot, namely in the 7-11 slot...the Junkies weren't winners out the gate, and it took them years to get those numbers...since coming on WJFK in 2000, the station has been very pro-R&F, and that has only increased since they were added to the live lineup...

I'm not really surprised by this. Isn't this their first book in that slot? The Junkies was / is a popular show that had a few years to gain an audience in that time slot. You take it away, you're bound to lose a substantial amount of listeners.
That's not to say that WJFK isn't run by chimps, though.
So you can hate them all you want at least they are being positive about Ron and Fez.
As they tell their 194th Opie and Anthony joke of the day.
I mean, dudes - it's been what? 8 months? GET OVER IT. Something's really up their ass about this. Maybe O&A are getting more money to sit on their asses than D&M are getting to be on the radio.
I'm glad to see D&M are tanking in Philly though. Who predicted that? I think it was these "Greg & Acne" folks Don always refers to.....

MMJ Tops DC Radio Ratings - 4/23 -
Winter Arbitrons for DC. While TOP was down a bit from the sniper coverage of fall, the beginning of Iraq war was good for the news station. Rush and Sean Hannity are on an upswing at MAL, but still some work needed for the morning show and Chris Core.MMJ sees a huge jump in PM drive. Don and Mike do well on JFK-FM, but still got beat by MMJ and TOP. JFK posts overall losses from fall and the previous winter book. D&M See Philly Slump - 4/22 -
On their Tuesday show, DC radio duo Don and Mike revealed that the winter ratings for their Philadelphia station were down a bit. They went from a 3.2 to a 2.3 via rock and hot talk WYSP. That's according to the City Of Brotherly Love quarterly Arbitrons, out today. Plus, the Infinity station, which also carries Howard Stern in morning drive, was down across the board. WYSP has been running D&M in PM drive since last fall. On the air, Don said that while the "latest book" was "not great," the numbers could easily bounce back upward. WYSP is contractually required to carry D&M through September.....

From radioandrecords.com:
John Sykes: Infinity 'Can And Will Do Better'
So says the Infinity Radio Chairman/CEO in yesterday's Wall Street Journal story on Viacom's Q1 results, where Viacom President/COO Mel Karmazin defends his radio management team and says that even though he's disappointed in the results turned in by Infinity he's counting on Sykes to steer the company through tough waters. "John is a great executive," Karmazin says. "I now need John as the CEO and the leader of that company to show the results that our shareholders and I are looking for."
I think that Viacom needs to get some of the people who run Comedy Central or MTV involved with Infinity, they seem to need all the help they can get. Regarding Ron and Fez's performance in ratings, I think they really need to have some events or remote broadcasts in the area. When the junkies were getting their show off the ground, they would do remotes from bars almost every week and it seemed to work really well for them.

Don and Mike talked at length about their Philly ratings earlier in the week, and how the managment over-reacted to one bad book (after previous books that had been good).
To contrast that, they mentioned that while Ron and Fez's book wasn't good, that the managment at WJFK wasn't freaking out because it is only one book. Don and Mike went on to say that R&F have a great show, and that it will take time to build on it and they want their listeners to support their show.
Long time JFK listeners need to remember that The Junkies took A LONG time get to that 2nd place ratings they enjoyed. WJFK will give them more time to succeed than they will Bill O'Reilly, or WYSP for D&M - which will suck for Ron and Fez, because that is one fewer market that might eventually pick them up.
(For the record, Don and Mike talked about that WYSP has it in their contract that they can fire D&M after September, so you O&A fans up there that are more interested in seeing Don and Mike fail than Ron and Fez succeeding, then you only have about 5 months).

I agree.
I mean, no offense to R&F, they don't live in the area, they have circumstances, etc., but the "we don't live in your city, but we'll do a couple shows there every week or so" shit didn't work with Don and Mike and it ain't going to work with Ron & Fez either.
They need to have some events in the D.C. area, some sort of event that will allow their D.C. fans to show up and to also work as an avenue to entice new people to show up and get tuned in to the show.

It's true that everything takes time to jell! It takes promos, buzzing by word of mouth, even yelling from one's window to advertise the show!LOL! Ron & Fez have a fine product!, and as a former New York listener, I miss them, and want them back soon! I'll admit that 7pm-11pm is a difficult spot to work due to the fact that most of D.C. is either having dinner, watching prime time television, involved in other forms of "after work" entertainment, or what have you!, and I think WJFK's management realizes this!, and isn't sweating the low book! What our D.C. buddays can do is continue buzzing the show!, and everything will be okay!

You have to remeber, this is RnF's first ratings book at the 7-11 slot full time. So far the show has been a real word of mouth advertising, but it seems that with JFK having a bad ratings book, the show will be promoted more.
Last night RnF mentioned choicing a logo for the show, perhaps they are gearing up a few Subway train signs, and ads on the back of buses in DC.
Expect to see O'Reilly dropped over the summer. The junks are stuck at WHFS, and with the numbers they produce for the failing station, they aren't goin anywhere. Ron and Fez will be given more time to get the higher numbers, they are in the same situation the junk were in, they have to start from scratch.
Concerning events, yes, I think they really need to do something. They can't really do a Big Ass night of fights yet, but they can do another Rock and Ribs. DC has a good punk scene, and various alt rock bands, it wouldn't be too hard, plus fans of the bands would show up and they could be possible listeners. I don't mean to criticize them, but i think an event can shoot those numbers up.
And of course, who will promote this event on their show? Don and Mike, and then thier listeners will listen so they can win tickets, and find out whats goin on.
Give em time, theyll come around.

Sadly, unless they have a show ready to go, I don't see them dumping O'Reilly for at
least another year, after 4 full books.
It really stinks, because The Junks would be a great fit between the morning and
afternoon shows.
They already have a bus ad for the station that's been out for a couple of months that
looks like it was designed by a two year old mental patient.
(not unlike my posts when I post from a Macintosh!)
Some meet and greets in the area would be terrific.
I love that they are already doing local commercials (I've gone to "5 Guys" already in
support!)
The thing to remember about the bad book - across the country, this was a bad book
for this kind of format of radio.
The news stations all have huge spikes during the time of the war.
There is no reason to freak out - all you have to do is listen to the variety of callers
that get on the air to know that something is building.

the real problem stems from the lack of station competition. the stagnation caused by coporate congolomerates sucking up all the stations has caused the talent pool to become polarized. thus the listening audience tends to get tired of the same old crap. im afraid to say but eventually ron and fez may ultimately fail, but only due to the ineptitude of infinity broadcasting...remember they dont make talent they just steal it...they stole stern and imus, stations like wfan, proven talent they have nobody that can competently manage and grow new talent. tools...f-ing tools

Hold it a minute. I know Howard was on DC 101 in the 80s then went to NY to NBC then he got fired from there and then went to Infinity. That was in the mid 80's so I would not say that they stole Howard. I would say that most people in the talk genre of radio would like to work for Infinity especially if they could follow in Howards foot steps on the syndication deal. Also to work out of NYC the number 1 market. If you notice Howard never got all of his syndication markets all at once they are all separate negotiated deals. There is more money that way. O & A and Don and Mike did the same thing. People like Imus, Rush, Liddy, O'Rielly are on a ton of markets but I don't think they get as much per station as Howard does.

DCRTV Dave Does JFK - 4/27 - If you were listening to WJFK-FM at midnight Saturday (and who was - the lead-in was a rerun of Ron and Fez discussing alcoholism) then you got to hear DCRTV Dave. It was an unannounced, test broadcast of a new, rather rowdy talk show - "El Jefe's Hideout." Hosted by "El Jefe," whose real name is Alex. The show focused mainly on sex and sports, in an obvious attempt to attract young males. Yours truly (who was the only one required to use his real name) did try to get in a few radio comments (including criticism of JFK itself) - but was instead mainly directed to respond to stuff like "which celebrity would you like to get into the missionary position." DCRTV does hear that "Washington's Superstation" is looking for "new and original" programming to populate its overnight and weekend tundra of infomercials and reruns. Hey, even El Jefe would be an improvement over Bill O'Reilly's political rants or that Sunday infomercial about bowel cleansing.....
This is from DCRTV. It sounds like a lame show, but it sounds better than most of the infomercials out there on JFK. From Car salesmen, bald guys, home repairs, and the wedding show. JFK has some crappy weekend shows.
Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.

How many times do we have to quote the FAQ?????
- Where can I find an Internet Stream of the Ron and Fez Show?
Infinity Broadcasting prohibits its programs from being broadcast via the web. Infinity actively shuts down and prosecutes any rebroadcast or pirate stream of the show. That being said, pirate streams do exist and many members of RonFez.net do use them. BUT, to post the addresses on this board would be asking to shut them down. Nobody wants that.
So, if you are looking for a stream, we suggest you become an active member of the board, gain the trust of members that seem like they use the pirate streams and try to covertly ask them for the stream. Getting an internet stream is much like buying crack, in more ways than one.
Any post asking for streams will be deleted by the moderators.

From a daily reader, but less-frequent poster...two things. One - Dave - I didn't get to hear you this weekend but if WJFK-FM is looking to fill in O'Reilly's spot with a show like "El Jefe's Hideout" (which again I didn't hear but am going on your word, Dave) - has anyone heard what is on Live 105.7 during mid-days? Out To Lunch is a great show and what seems to be a perfect fit in between Stern and Don & Mike down in D.C. It works well in Baltimore. I wonder if anyone has thought of that.... Two - what is a black person supposed to sound like? Maybe someone can tell me cause I don't know. While they're at it, what is a white person supposed to sound like? I'd love to know... (4/28/03)
Dave's response: Yes, I agree. JFK-FM needs to do something else in middays. I think that a show like WASH's "Girl Talk" (on Sunday nights) might be perfect for middays on 106.7. Spice it up a little for JFK. I really think that a lot of guys would listen if the show focused on sex and male/female relationships and didn't dwell on cooking and cleaning. And JFK needs to get busy promoting Ron and Fez. Perhaps R&F could get involved in a real nasty "radio feud" with D&M to generate some press coverage. The "El Jefe" thing might be perfect for late evenings and/or overnights. Then the station can get to work on the weekends.....
I just sent a response to this email. We do not need any negativity between the shows.
Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Ok let's get the boys back live in NY. Don't give up the fight.

Agreed. The O&A/D&M radio war didn't really provide new listeners to either show as much as it compelled the listeners to take one side or the other.

And this on the tail of WNEW, which f*'d up big time. I actually enjoying the music for awhile, after the shock of loosing R&F. Then of course, WNEW screwed up again and morphed their station into 102.7 Blink, which now plays old 70s songs and country music, with a smattering of pop and rap. WTF?

That "El Jefe" show was maybe the most godawful thing I've heard on the radio in a long, LONG time.
But then again, the Junks were the very definition of low-rent when they started, so maybe with time the show will develop. I will say this - I'd STILL rather listen to "El Jefe" than D&M replays at 11 p.m.
And Jefe earns points for the Cigar Sid call-in.
Personally, I think JFK should bring back the real quality shows from the past - TECH RADIO!!!!!

This is a quote.
I would listen to them every now and then if I was driving around.
I know I am going to catch flack for this, but I do like listening to the races on Sundays.

I really liked tech radio, but it always pissed me off
when I knew they were wrong about something, and I
was like, "I should be on the damn radio." I'm a geek,
but not that big of a geek, but I still knew more than
they did sometimes.

From DCRTV.com:
No we do not need any type of feuds between the shows. That is what screwed up everything with D&M and O &A. The shows get along fine. WE DON'T NEED ANY NEGATIVITY BETWEEN THE SHOWS. Dave I am a big time supporter of WJFK and have been listening to them since they started with Howard. I agree that WJFK needs to promote Ron and Fez more and possible have them do some remotes to get people listening to the show. Ron and Fez are two great guys and they have a fantastic show. They are not mean spirited and they do not insult their audience. If you are reading this post give them a chance 106.7 7pm - 11pm Tues - Friday 8pm - 11pm Mondays. Give them a week and you will be hooked also check out the message board www.ronfez.net. Sorry for the plug for the show. Gary in Springfield. (4/29/03)

I was not sure if he would let me plug the show on his website. Hopefully some new people will tune in Ron and Fez and check out the message board as well.
We all need to spread the word about the show.

Shocker -- O'Reilly's ratings suck (though for some reason DC's aren't listed):
