View Full Version : When it rains it pours (Good News)
As some of you may have known, I had been having trouble finding work for the past 19 months. No matter where I applied to, no matter what the position or field I just couldn't find anything. Then about three weeks ago I was hired by Circuit City. Even though it was retail sales I was making the best of the situation and actually impressing some people. One manager can't believe I've never sold digital cameras before, to not even mention the fact that I've only used one about 4 times with my selling technique. So in spite of some recent personal issues I was feeling as good as I could for myself as I could right now.
But in between the time that I interviewed for Circuit City and when they hired me, my new favorite RF.net member of all time, Shorty, helped set up an interview for me with a company down on Wall Street for an Administrative assistant opening (Any other member that would like the title of my favorite board member of all time may try to sway my vote by any means possible. And ladies will have a huge advantage). The interview was exactly one week after my father died and I really don't remember what I said during it, but I must have impressed them somehow because this past Tuesday I received the call that I got the Job. It's going to pay me about 60% more then Circuit City was. I was stoked.
Then today I came home from work completely drained because they had me organizing a PDA accessory wall that no one has worked on in at least 5 months that had about 300 different items that were all mixed up. When I check my messages there is a message from a manager from Toys 'R Us Times Square, a place where I worked for 6 weeks during the holidays last year. They are gearing up for the summer and wanted to offer me a job also. Unemployed for the better part of 19 months and now I have three places offering me work. No matter what I'm taking the Wall Street Job, but I also want to try to do a second job on the weekends. The pay difference is negligible since it basically comes down the little more that I'll make at Circuit City per day would just pay for the car fare. But getting all of my DVD's at cost is a nice bonus. But T. R. U. is a much more laid back and fun place to work. I don't know what to do but it's nice to have options for a change.

is the T. R. U. gig seasonal?
<img src="http://tseery.homestead.com/files/surfer2.jpg" width=300 height=100>
I don't know. He said it would be part time but I got home too late to give him a call. I don't think I'd be able to keep up a 7 day work schedule for long so it would probably be best to let that be and see if I could go there on the weekends when the holidays come back around.

Hosp, I'm not sure what you work drive is, but I'd be very careful about working both at TRU and a fulltime 40-hour-a-week job, just because you'll have zero free time and burn out very fast.
Other than that, congratulations!

Congrats Gary! So glad to hear the good news.
Don't spread yourself too thin-- a weekend gig at Circuit City or TRU will bring in extra cash, but you don't want to burn yourself out. As a new hire at the firm on Wall Street, you'll probably be under some sort of "probabtion" for 6 months and your days off may be limited until you're there for a year or so. New jobs can be stressful so you may want to wait before you take a weekend job (besides, I'm SURE they'll be hiring around the holidays!)
GOOD LUCK! :-)

Way to go brother.
Do yourself a favor and buy yourself something nice. Something you wouldnt think of buying. Like a big screen tv or a nice leather lazy chair.
BTW you called me a few weeks ago, and I meant to call you back but I lost your number. Then I forgot all about your call. Not on purpose, it's just been crazy around here. So holla back.

nuh uh. being a nancy negative makes me teh cool!!
having no free time IS really sucky though... I think wait because holiday time I'm sure you can pick up a part time job - I once worked four jobs at once at once and didn't have a day off for four months - it was so sucky; the extra money was nowhere near worth it.

Way to go, Gary, sweetie!
Hooray! Things look like they're looking up for you. :)
I'm very very very happy for you. . . job-hunting is almost as stressful as having a job sometimes.
As you move on to your new "venture", please remember to take care of yourself. Extra money is never worth sacrificing your good health. . . mental or physical.
You're a smart guy, so I'm sure you'll make the best decision for yourself, but CONGRATULATIONS on the new job!!!! :)
And, I'm with DreamWeaver. . . does this mean we get to party now????

At first I thought you called me Muhamed.
Thanks for all of your support and well wishes.
No matter what I'm leaving Circuit City. My manager is on vacation and his fill in is giving me all of these shitty little tasks to take care of to make himself look better. I was still working on that PDA wall today and at one point the store manager took a picture of it with a digital camera so I think he was impressed. I think I'm going to go into the city and speak to the people at TRU to see if I check back in a month or two if there is an opening If I could do some work. I'm getting another Six Flags season pass (Stay tuned for some more fun stories) so I'll want my weekends free. Lewis Black is going to be playing there one weekend so maybe we can all go that day.
And I don't know if I'm ready for a party yet, but I may think about a get-together.

<img src=http://users.rcn.com/jamespatton/redmeatsig.jpg>
I smoked in your honor last night!
Please, you smoked last night because the day ended in Y. And my machine is always on, I screen my calls. I just can't talk to any riff raff (or any of the 15 telemarketers that call me every day). And if the phone just kept ringing, that's because my sister can't figure out how to have call waiting interupt her internet connection.
And I appreciate the thought, but will people stop saying how things can only get better. The last time someone said that to me was the last night I was at Bar 9, and that didn't turn out well.
And is anyone free Saturday May 9th?
