Greetings from Napa Valley, California

My company sent me to Napa Valley to set up computers for the winery of Francis Ford Coppola. You might know him from such small time movies as the GodFather and Bram Stroker's Dracula...(and Captain E-O, i just found out)...

anyway, im staying at his house...ate dinner with his wife, watched him direct acting sessions to improve his writing...the guy is L-O-A-D-E-D....i mean major fucking cash...i feel weird being here...like all small time...

I had fois grois today...it tastes like slippery grilled asshole...not impressed...then i had a nicoise salad and risoto with truffles in a cream sauce....

gourmet food sucks....truffles are over-rated...i want a greys papaya hot dog or a burger or im going to beat someone with this jar of 100% organic lemon marmalade, hand bottled with a price tag made of hemp.

Californians suck.

I love fois gras, and find the taste sublime. But I try to avoid it because the geese are force fed.

Truffles...I like them, but don't find them worth a price higher than gold. White are better than black..but I recently dined at a restaurant where the tagliatele with shaved white truffles was an extra $45 on the tasting menu, and the portion of pasta was the size of a hockey puck. Not worth it, but in risotto it's great.

I hope you're enjoying the great wine there. Aside from FFC's wine, which is pretty decent and well priced (better yet, free for you) California wines from Napa and Stag's Leap are some of the best in the world. If you want to splurge or someone else is paying, try Stag's Leap, Cakebread, Mondavi Opus One, Silverado, Grgich Hills, Screaming Eagle (very hard to find), to name a few.

Go for the cabernets if you like big reds. These are best; all Merlots taste like slippery wet asshole.

The Valley is awesome, and not as bad as people think - although, all that live there are rich people mostly. I used to have a summer house out there. (I am far from rich though) You definitely HAVE to go to the Rutherford Grill on Rt. 29 just up the road from Coppola's place. THE BEST steaks are there.

I recently dined in my (rental) car on a bean burrito
with sour cream and guacamole after going through the
drive-thru at Taco Bell. Can you believe Taco Bell
doesn't have Dr. Pepper anymore? What is this world
coming to?

In Fredericksburg, Virginia there are no truffles of any
color. There isn't any tagliatele or risotto, either. By
July, though, I should be living a little closer to DC, and
I might actually be able to get to a real restaurant from
time to time.

Yes, I'm jealous.
