so i got a ticket in Virginia while traveling home from myrtle beach last week. It was for going 80 in a 65 on 95-N....
my questions are:
1) who informs my insurance company? (the cop didn't take my insurance card)
2) do i get points for a violation in another state?
3) what happens if i don't pay the fine? (bench warrant? right? and would it just be in the state of Virginia?)
okay, i guess the services of our members involved in law enforcement would be most helpful, but i am sure there are others who have some experience in this area....please respond, i need to know if i am gonna pay the ticket or not....besides, how many times will i be in virginia?

I'm not a police officer, Reeshy? Maybe you could check
in on this one? But here's my advice.
1) Your insurance company will find out on their own,
you will look better in their eyes if you tell them
yourself.
2) I am not positive, but I am pretty sure that yes, the
points will count even if they are from another state.
3) Pay the ticket. It wasn't fast enough to be
wreckless driving, but you don't need that haunting
you. You will get a bench warrant and may never have
to worry about it, but if it does catch up to you, you'll
spend a little time in jail. It ain't worth it. Just pay it.

Go with Snipes advice-as far as the warrant goes-up here it would be a suspension on your license (in NY)-Virginia-I don't know-but it will pop up whenever you go for another job if they check for criminal background-they won't chase you up here but it will follow you-pay the fine and forget it!!

Just pay it. If you have an outstanding ticket and return to Virgina even years later you'll spend the night as a guest of the state.
I don't understand why the cop didn't take your insurance information but chances are that your insurance company will find out about it. I think they are automatically notified upon entering of a conviction, which you'll receive in abstentia, even if you don't pay the fine.

1.) You will not receive any points.
2.) Your insurance will not be affected or notified.
3.) Pay the ticket unless you're 100% certain you will never be in that state again.

Ouch. Just..ouch. But, yeah I agree with Reeshy (et al) of course. If we didnt expect you to pay tickets, we wouldnt write em, right?
