Mahmoud Abbas

I would like to hear opinions regarding Mahmoud Abbas and his appointment to Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority.

So far, the only dirt I can find on this guy is that he wrote a book which claims that only thousands, not millions, of Jews were killed in the Holocaust. While this demonstrates massive historical ignorance, I do not believe it will necessarily affect his skills in steering the region towards peace. Let's see how this (The Middle East, not this thread) plays out.

I'm unsure and a bit unknowledgible about Abbas....but basicially it's an attempt to create a somewhat stable and useful Palestinian government so they can attempt to control the groups and problems hindering peace.

He's actually matching the the public statements made by both Israle and the US about this whole "roadmap" shindig, which is a helluva lot more than Arafat has done since Rabin was killed...vive Abbas! Here's hoping he sticks to what he's been saying...
