View Full Version : What is your comfort movie?

Ron and Fez were talking about movies that you put on when you need that certain "something".

My comfort movies are:
Big Trouble in Little China
The Letter
Overboard

Notice that two of the movies star Kurt Russel.
Ron put Kurt Russel and Bill Murray in the Comfort Movie Hall of Fame. I must agree.

Queen of the Damned (for all you hardcore Rice fans, yes I know it doesn't follow the book but it has some kick ass music and it is somewhat erotic) :)
The Last Unicorn
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

I am, and always will be,in a state of sulky dissatisfaction.

I WANT IT NOW!!!

I already posted some time ago in a favorite lyrics
thread the lyrics to "Pure Imagination," but here's my
real favorite, when i'm in a dark mood...

----------
(Wonka) You're going to love this... just love it...

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing

Is it raining, is it snowing
Is a hurricane a-blowing

Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing
Is the grisly reaper mowing

Yes, the danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!
----------

Gene Wilder's obviously benevolent, yet somewhat
sadistic Willy Wonka was my first crush. Imagine that.

My favorite scene is when Sean Connery and his aide are leaving a wounded officer with a Dutch family, and a German soldier just lazily walks by, then does a double take and comes back to the window where Connery shoots him like 5 times..

I like to watch any old WWII movies with lots of Nazi's in them. I have never been scared by ANY horror movie except The Excorcist. The only thing in this world I fear, is seeing a Nazi from that era. Not these fags you see nowadays with their funny suspenders.

For years I was embarassed to say that vampire movies did it for me. No one I hung out with felt the same. Unfortunately I married a guy who feels the same as them and who finds they are the perfect movies to put him to sleep.
Damn it, why can't he like blood!

when im feeling low nothing picks me up faster than seeing others suffer worse than me.

This is so my philosophy when everything is going wrong. My husband will ask "Where are you going?" and I answer, I'm going to watch a horror movie so that I can watch terrible things happen to people that aren't me. No matter what is happening, there isn't a flock of insane people after me (Don't Look in the Basement).

I have comfort movies; and most have a comfort scene, some cool part that I must see over and over again. But my comfort movies, like others, may not be comfortable.

Saving Private Ryan [Normandy landing]
Aliens [When the alien army gets into the compound and the big fight between the marines + survivors, one of which is friggin Paul Reiser!]
Heat [Bank Robbery/Foot chase/Pacino popping Sizemore]
Powaqqatsi
Office Space [Interview between efficiency experts and Michael Bolton]
Jaws
Close Enocounters of the Third Kind [whole thing, but the sequence where the Mom fights the aliens when they try to take her boy. Yow!]
On The Beach

but for some reason, I can Not get enough of John Carpenter Movies!
He made:
Halloween
The Fog
Escape From NY
They Live
The Thing [its a remake of a 50s flick]
Ghosts of Mars
Vampires

Now, some [most?] are really bad! But there's parts of The Fog and They Live which absolutely blow me away. Weird.
