Winner gets home field advantage in the World Series. I think something like this is long overdue.

This is moronic. Why give meaning to what is
essentially an exhibition?

After last years debacle, they had to do something to shake it up. Besides, I always hated it when some players would sit out. The fans voted you in, they deserve to see you play.

Good thing this didn't happen last year, I can just hear the crying "Torre left Pedro in for too long! Any injuries he gets at the end of the season is all the Yankees Fault!!!! Whaaa, Whaaa, Whaaa!!!!"
Recipie for disaster....

I think it is a good idea, but i dont think they needed to do too much more.
Last year was a debacle, but it was also one of the best all star games in a while. We got to see great hitting, great defense and great pitching.
The debacle is in the idea that everybody has to play. That was never the case a just a few years ago.
Before unbridled free angency and interleague play, there was actually a rivalry between the leagues. Each league even had its own comisioner. Because of this, the best players in each league got to square off only once a year, and the managers wanted to win.
So they would actually manage the game as if it counted, and they wouldnt play everybody. You had to earn the privelage to play in an allstar game.
Several years ago when the all star game was in Pittsburgh (i cant remember teh year) the game went into extra innings, but because both managers managed their teams, they were able to play several extra innings, until the NL won.

well i still think they need to get rid of the rule that says every team needs to b at the all-star game.its a bullshit rule.
by forcing players that arent good enough to b on the team u leave out players who are good, but they have better ppl playing along side them. i remember a couple years ago they left out frank thomas because of this rule.....its such bullshit, if your not good y are u there?
also it is bullshit that players dont choose to play in the game.there should b no choice, unless your injured. if a healthy player chooses to not participate from the all-star game he should b fined by the MLB and all the ppl who attend the all-star game should get a little 'no appearance' refund out of the fine.

Why can't it just be the team with the best record gets home field. Is it really that hard of a concept. I am a Yankees fan. Do I really want a guy who plays for the Tigers to decide the game in the 9th inning when all the good players are long gone.
