ok folks what do you think is gonna be the next big trend in music i think after this summer its gonna be jam bands like phish and the dead and so on along with some experamental rock like the transplants. cause there is that bonnnaru festival that gets like 700,000 people what do you think

As far as I'm concerned, drugs are natural selection. The stupidest people use them, and the absolute stupidest die from them. It's God's way of saying, "fuck you, dumbass."

It hasn't been discovered yet. I am sure there are several different bands out there that are trying to create a new style/sound, but it takes a while for things to change in the mainstream. Support local music.

it wont ever change now, young girls own the music business in a matter of speaking, because they're the big buyers, and all the crap they like is SHIT. Good charlotte, avril lavigne, simple plan, or you have the kids who think they're punks with: KoRn, Blink 182, and new found glory and that crap. And then of course you have your Pop, your little justin timberlakes, and other boy band kids going solo. If it does happen to change itll probably go more to rap or R&B or something.

does it matter? whatever becomes the next trend, even if it's good to begin with (which i sort of doubt), will just be completely bastardized and start to suck. you can't trust the public with something good, because they'll undoubtedly fuck it up.

i think we might see some evanescence-like bands coming out soon... their single has done amazingly well, and the album's gone platinum. i'm sure they'll be tons of people just running to try and capitalize on that.

still, the only trend that i could possibly foresee being any good would be one led by the white stripes. from that very short spurt of garage, back to roots rock bands, they seem to have been the only ones to survive. but they're good, and i'm sure that anything that would follow would be crap.

i think part of the reason why the more underground or indie bands are so good is by virtue of their being able to stay somewhat shielded from everything else. once they are brought out into the public, they are lost.

excellent call, Arienette. I was gonna say that, too. I
don't think we've seen the last of the Hives, the Vines,
or the Strokes, tho, either.

I agree that once it hits the main stream the music becomes someting totally diff. I think the whitestripes are one of those rare bands that mix many diff styles into someting alittle diff and thats what makes them great plus i would go nuts over that drummer she is hotttttttt as hell. I see metal making a come back with metalica and if they do the next headbangers ball right it could be back in a big way.I am not a big fan of anyone music this days i mostly listen to old punkhardcoreskalues

The white stripes arent leading a change in music.
There are several different things going on right now.
First you have the revivalist stuff. Basically its the
modern music that sounds like it was recorded live in
the 1960's. You could start to hear it with the hives'
first album. More modern examples are Hot Hot
Heat, Ben Kweller, The Walkmen, etc.

Next, you have a change in the way rock is played on
the radio. I'm already hearing the new radiohead
album on the radio rather than linkin park and the
nu-metal stuff. Tons of cool music from radiohead,
sigur ros, interpol, american analog set, bright eyes,
and many other bands representing everything from
indie rock to alternative to harder stuff. Watch for a
change in the way you hear rock.

As far as jam bands getting big. Where the fuck have
you been. Jam bands have been huge for years. The
first bonaroo festival was "the shit" as described by
some hippie on my dorm floor. I personally cant
stand any of the jam music. The fake happiness,
cheesy riffs, and retarded lyrics make me want to
vomit into a stroller.

If you ask me there are a couple of CD's out there
that you all might enjoy.

If you can get your hands on the leaked studio
versions of Radiohead's new album... you're in for a
sonic treat. It's a mesmerizing mix of rock that you
heard on their earlier albums, and the more
progressive and experimental electronic composition
you heard on kid a and amnesiac.

If you want something a little poppier and easy to
listen to... driving music if you will. Check out bands
like phantom planet, Hot Hot Heat, Ben Kweller, Ok
Go, etc...

Good luck... and go raid a tower records or
something.

PS can i get a job for SPIN you think?

carter, what's your take on bright eyes and the omaha indie rock movement? you seem to know your stuff... so i'm curious

I think its pretty interesting. A lot of people swear by
it, but i think much of it is too crafted. I bought
LIFTED by bright eyes awhile ago and just remember
listening to a couple tracks and being like "this guy
puts more emphasis on emotion than he does on
song form." But i really dig some of the other tracks
like "Method Acting" etc.

To me, the whole midwest rock thing developing
comes of out of Kansas City and then branched out
after a lot of those bands started to make it like the
Get Up Kids. Then it expanded to omaha and
oklahoma... Bright Eyes, ...Trail of dead, etc.

I still can totally dig it. You might like this band called
american analog set... they're from austin and they
rock err... they chill?
cheers

she is hotttttttt as hell

omg, love really is blind. woof woof.

i agree with arienette. i dont want the good stuff to become the next trend for fear of bastardization. let the garbage like evanescense rule the sales charts. all the pigs need swill to feed on.
