If it is usually within the last couple of minutes I will throw in a bid around a minute left. Then will constantly refresh until about 25 seconds left and then throw in a ridiculously high bid. Providing there is no one else crazy enough to throw in a $1000 bid on a $30 item it usually works great for me. I hate it when people bid on the item early knowing full well the auction doesn't end until 7 days later. Come on you asses just casue you jacked up the price on it doesn't mean you will wi it. Dicks.

there are a few suggestions

A) look for items with "Buy Now!" option
B) wait till there is a minute left in the bid and then bid (however that pisses many people off)

Those are two tricks i know

I just use half.com and buy the stuff direct. It saves me so much from hassle and the deals are usually damn good.

half.com is from the friendly folks at ebay, but it's direct purchase as opposed to bidding on stuff. it's great.

I had a long reply going along with what fluffer was talking about, but yet again, I got the goddamn error message since I included a web link and when I hit "Back" the message was gone. What the 'eff?!?

Fluff, basically you're right. I bid ASAP to get my foot in the door, but it's always just the bare minimum. I've only started using eBay in the last month or two and only for rare and hard to find CD's, but it seems that the person I get into bidding competition with inevitably starts off bidding $5-$50 above the minimum, and for seemingly no reason. Could it just be the seller jacking it up under a different name, or having a friend doing it? Can and does eBay safeguard against this practice?

By the way, here's the last thing I bought...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2525479903&category=307&rd=1

Granted, if by a miraculous chance you find this album in a store it'll be at LEAST $80, but after I placed the opening $9.99 bid, the jerkoff I was going against never, NEVER bid less than $5. Fucker...

What's the point of that? If it was me, I'd just raise the initial price of the record. Also, you'd run the risk of accidentally taking the bid.

By the way, here's the last thing I bought...

I call for a bragging rights thread except only I see a few of us posting. Could be fun though. We let each other know what we won and in some cases what we are selling.

I used to do the "lay my claim" by bidding thingy but I kind of lost touch with the friend I was always bidding against. Now it is just open game. Although after wasting thousands on eBay in the last 3 years, there is not much more I am looking for. I have pondered selling my collection just to buy some of it all over again. Nah. That would be dumb.

you have to decide if its worth taking the chance that the seller isnt a crook or the used item is in the condition you hope.
you HAVE to check the sellers rating and it better be VERY good. Id never buy from a seller with more than a few negatives or a new seller.

But - i would only use ebay for rare special items.

You can usually get the same item new and for around the same price by using an on line merchant.

enter your item in a website such as
mysimon.com
pricegrabber.com
etc....
you know its new, and you can return it etc..

Depends more on what cartoon/characters/quality of cel. I think people would be good shit from a low feedbacked bidder. If there's any q's about it, contact me privately.

That's what I figured. At this point I could just frame some stills and hand them out. Then watch years later when they become worth a lot. Money is not quite my motivation though.

This one friend of mine got a sweet Beavis and Butthead Cel from when Butthead was tuning Ozzy in on his braces in the back of class and the Homer still from when Homer is in the comedy club with the face on his rear end. I always laugh at those when I see them.

i dont bid til about 10 seconds left. any bid i place prior to that will only incite some other bidder to throw in their bid, thereby raising the price of the item. at least i'd like to think that.

No but alot of times the sellers do if the price doesn't match what they wanted to sell it for. They will pull the auction and relist it. That's what sucks aboot eBay.
