Orrin Hatch and the usual Republican suspects are exploiting the Familt of Laci Peterson to push the signing of a bill that takes them 1 step closer to overturning Roe V. Wade...

This one counts murder against a pregnant woman as 2 counts of murder.

Now, I'm in no way condoning the murder of a pregnant woman, but the only reason they're shoving this in the face of the Peterson family is to use it to further the anti-abortion agenda

Maybe, but the other side will oppose this law simply because it could be used to end abortion, not becuase of any actual merits or disadvantages to the law.

I thought California already had that law in place.

If people wouldn't politicize everything, I'd agree with the law. If I were pregnant and miscarried due to a violent act, I would want that person convicted of murder. The problem lies in that all the twits and twats on either side of the issue have lost all focus, as has anyone with a political agenda.

So they'll take a good law like this and pervert it to suit their own needs.

This is a law already in Cali and several other states. I don't like Hatch much, and agree that this should not become an abortion issue. What this does is highlight the problem with allowing one person to abort a fetus legally while another person is charged with murder for killing the same "tissue". If the mother wants it, it's a baby. If she doesn't want it, it's tissue. It's a difficult situation with no clear resolution.
