View Full Version : Britain investigates Fox News
This is from IMDB.com:
The Fox News Channel could be forced off the air in Britain if an investigation currently under way by the watchdog Independent Television Commission determines that it violated ITC's "due impartiality" rules during its coverage of the war in Iraq, Britain's Guardian newspaper reported today (Thursday). The newspaper quoted Julian Petley, chairman of the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom, as favoring IT action against the Rupert Murdoch-owned channel. "I'm not in favor of censorship," he said, "but Murdoch would like to do with British television news what he has done with newspapers, which is to force people to compete on his own terms. So if we allow into Britain the kind of journalism represented by Fox, that would bring about a form of censorship." In a caustic editorial, the Guardian observed that if Murdoch wants to continue using his Sky News satellite service to advance his political views, he might have to move his base of operations to another country. The editorial concluded, "It would be a delicious irony if Mr Murdoch, a committed anti-European, moved to the continent so he could pollute sober fact with pointed opinion."
HA! I love it. And I would LOVE the irony of Sky News being based out of France.

This is SUCH a fucking joke.
The BBC is basically anti American propaganda. It's pathetic that they're critisizing Fox. Right now on the BBC's website it's talking about the Death penalty in the US. It's basically making everyone on death row out to be some sort of victims being picked on by the mean ole American government.

Yet they have no problem with this in their News organizations. I don't know where they get off being so high and mighty.

Not that I think there's anything wrong with it but "he who without sin" and all that.

Why the hell can't Britain be content with high speed car chases dominating their news?

Just joining in with the rest of the line, but is it really physically possible to shove your own foot THIS far down your throat?

I'm assuming this link is to what LC is rambling about, since it's the only thing even remotely close to being a "news story" on the BBC's site, even though it's actually supposed to just be a primer on the issue. You may also note the two prominent "workseet" links at the top that lead to arguments BOTH for AND against the death penalty. The specific case addressed is the focus because it is a British national that is up for execution. Is it really THAT odd for a BRITISH news source to be covering a BRITISH man about to executed by another country? And the site here in question looks to be actually some kind of educational tool for teachers. It's presenting all sides of this specific case (And the issue of state execution itself) and then asks students to write an essay as to whether or not they're for the death penalty. Not sure exactly what is bothering LC so much, but everyone can check it out for yourselves..

Still curious as to what he thinks is so flamingly "ant-American" about the BBC. He just appears like a thief in the dark, screams it loud and proud, and then scampers away. Very odd.

Well, the polls for the war in Britian showed that many of them were against our actions, so maybe Brits are just so Anti-American that they don't want another American news outlet. I guess it's their right to say what they want to watch.
I say leave it up to viewers rather than have a government organization censor it, but if Britian wants to become more like the Arab countries with their state run News, it's their right. Citizens there need to vote out members of parliment if they disagree and voice their opinions. They're a democracy.
