This is one of the most absurd notions I've heard in a while. Yeah..it's their fault for all these tools who don't stop eating garbage and over-eating. They should hand out cyanide and see if they eat that...haha

I'm glad the Health Secretary is dealing with stuff like this. It's not like there is a superflu going around that demands immediate attention.
EDIT:'I don't support lawsuits. I think we can do this as a society
At least he said that. It was literally the least he could do.

Wait...didn't you claim in the Tax thread that it wasn't the people's fault for abusing the system, it was the people who put the system in place? Now it's not the burger joints who are to blame, but the people who eat there?Just checking.

Ditto.
The following is how I ASSUMED this thread would have started.....
... If it wasn't for those damn greedy corporate fat cats who are shoving their fattty greasy food down the throats of the weak and defenseless citizens, we wouldn't be having these lawsuits.
Oh, and let's throw in the politicians in Washington, for keeping the lower class in poverty, forcing them to work longer hours, multiple jobs for shitty wages, making it so that no family has time to eat healthy foods and making them turn to the 99 cent menus in the fast food restaurants.
But, of course, when you assume......

One has nothing to do with the other. Attempting to compare social programs to fast food isn't close to relevant. McDonalds isn't a "system" of survival like a welfare program can be. Go eat a salad or something somewhat healthy outside of fast food. How hard is that? (In Norton style) What the hell do I care about all these twits anyways? ..."A hamburger company runs my life...I can't stop eating."....uck..Go eat fast food til you get heart disease and die.
Btw...to all the rest of you...SUCK ME! haha

Attempting to compare social programs to fast food isn't close to relevant.
Yet, comparing social programs to computer software, that's relevant, right?
You can't account or stop everything...but a system such as welfare should have pausibilty factors protecting it from being abused.
If you buy a computer program and it doesn't work properly, it is your fault or the people who made and run the program?

This thread is a perfect example of why uber-conservatives drive me nuts... Here someone posts somthing that has NOTHING to do with bi-partisan politics, and because you've labeled him as "someone I disagree with" You all jump on him and try to discredit him...
And it's exactly the way the republicans in office work: When they have an opponent, they ignore everything else and just make sure they've thoroughly discredited him to the point where nobody wants to listen to what is being said...
And BTW, if anyone didn't understand that, and needs me to read it back to them, real-slow-like... let me know...

I'm not 100% certain I agree with you about the republicans specifically, but this is a great example how dissent in the US is not accepted. It's a simple microcosm of American free speech and thought.

Jerry, I didn't bring politics into my comments at all in this thread, you did. I was pointing out that a post was worded a certain way in one thread to justify a position, and then worded the opposite to justify a position in this thread. It's not politics, but calling attention to a two-faced posting. On the topic, fast food is a serious problem because people don't have any idea about how many calories and all are in these burgers. There's a chain that has a burger with over 1000 calories in it, and that's half of the intake a person should have in a day. People really have to look into what they are doing to themselves.

I agree with you about fast food, but as for "two faced posting," it's really apples and oranges, unless you have a percentage of each paycheck taken out and sent to Burger King....
EDIT: and I apologize for singling out Conservatives on that one. but Five's right, it's a testiment to our inability to perceive views other than our own...

I can see that. I just didn't completely understand how in one instance it was "the Man's" fault, and on the other it's the people's fault. Not a big deal either way, just opinions. Thanks Jerry for recognizing I wasn't making a political attack, just one of consistancy.
Two faced posting? If my answer to 2 separate questions is yes in one and no in the other...that's your version of two-faced?
Yes, it is. Your reasoning was the government is responsible for the abuses of the welfare system by people who use it. Then you turn around and say the restaurants are not responsible for the abuses of their food by the people who eat it. I read that to be two-faced, yes. That's my perception.
I feel fast food needs to make people much more aware of the crap they are eating. It should be on all packaging, just like it is in grocery stores. Will it fix the problem? No way, because people want what they want no matter how bad it is for them (smoking for example), but it would be a proper start.

At the conference attorney John Banzhaf, whose 1970s crusades against the tobacco industry helped get cigarette commercials off the air, presented the National Restaurant Association with a notice of possible legal action against the industry.
Banzhaf and other lawyers claim that food companies, just like cigarette producers in the past, are not properly warning consumers that their products may be addictive.
Pretty soon there will be a surgeon generals label on your Big Mac -- Warning eating this food may cause heart disease, hardening of the arteries, widening of the ass, thighs, and waist, and loss of attractiveness.
You may think this is funny but we really need to be careful what is next? First look what they are doing to the cigarette companies, now fast food, will alcohol be far behind. Look at the crazy laws they have for cigarettes the taxes. How much is a pack of cigarettes in NYC. In DC you can get a carton for 20-30 bucks.
Big Macs will cost 15.00 for the fat tax that will be added, because the evil Ronald McDonald is making our public obese. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. Stop blaming others for your own problems. If you want to stop drinking, smoking, or eating so much do it yourself or get some help.
I will get off of my soap box now.
We need everyone to keep spreading the word about Ron and Fez. Get you friends, coworkers, hell anyone you talk to get them to listen.

Social programs like unemployment, welfare etc are setup for the publics' benefit and survival (Not to be relied upon). The reasons many get to abuse the system is due to lack of thorough enforcement as well as complacency of programs to make a strong effort to get people off of them. Of course some of the people on these programs abuse them...but abuses occur for lack of enforcement and rules...not just simply shifty paycheck collectors which is how you want to paint the picture.
As for a private business like McDonalds. A person (customer) doesn't need McDonalds to survive in life. They can buy food from any store or restaurant. Whether healthy food or not.
As for you comparing someone's survival on a government program to a restaurant...that's laughable. It's different subject matters and hold no barring upon each other. If you have a problem with unhealthy food restaurants, write the FDA. But it's not like people don't know fast food isn't good for them and eat it anyways....right? Everyone's a victim?

Perhaps I'm being the devil's advocate here, but it's not impossible to eat on the healthier side at a fast food place. McDonald's Burger King, Wendy's Boston Market. Subway... all offer lower-fat items such as grilled chicken sandwiches, salads with low-fat dressing, low-fat frozen yogurt. Aside from that, many of these places post nutritional information in their franchises. Places like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Dominoes are a little harder to eat low fat at, but it's not impossible. Besides, fast food should be an occasional thing, not a staple in the American diet. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head to "super size" their order for an extra 50 cents.

These aren't the only places people can get food from. if you want to eat healthier...go somewhere that has the type of food you seek. It's laughable that government would even suggest otherwise, especially considering some of the health laws and products that are allowed on the market.

besides the people that are currently out of work right now, i think people have very busy lives...
working two jobs, raising families, hustling to make ends meet, working longer hours, etc...
They do not find the time to eat healthier, to shop for and prepare healthier meals...
It doesn't say that they can't do what Alice suggested but the fast-food business is taking advantage of what i believe is an overworked and underpaid part of society... They never intended to hurt anyone but it doesn't mean that their menu's can't make some changes for the better...
the biggest thing people have to get over is a reduction in taste... you have to admit that KFC, Whoppers, and 1/4 Pounders are deelish... replacing them with a salad, low-fat dressing and a yogurt is to get used to...

Give me a chalupa or a nice greasy carne asada steak quesadilla!
Side Note: If you're eating at Subway, put the Buffalo sauce that they use on their Buffalo chicken sub on everything. EVERYTHING. Even if it's one of those veggie patties that look like rabbit shit. The sauce makes everything taste better.

I like the chicken taco.
Actually, lately when I eat at Taco Bell I will opt to get the chicken in things rather than beef for some reason. My taste for the steak and beef just isn't there as much as the chicken some days.
Maybe it's my heart pleading with me to decrease my fat intake.
