View Full Version : Apple Music Store
Rocks!
Download whole albums in minutes right from iTunes.
Pop it on your iPod or burn it to CD (as much as you
want).
Only 10 bucks per album.
No searching Kazaa forever and NO GUILT.
The artists get paid, the record companies get paid, and I
save 7 or 8 bucks...what's not to like??
As far as I can tell, it's the best internet music
compromise yet...too bad you have to have a mac.

I went to my local Apple store to watch Jobs' speech to introduce the new music things. The store is really nice, fast, previews, album covers, etc. Much faster than any file sharing program and cleaner than any mp3s you'll download.
The down sides are that it's AAC format, which means you're playing it in iTunes or an iPod, unless you burn it to a cd. Only 200,000 songs so far, so the selection is still not there, but most popular albums/songs are.

Yeah, the AAC thing is a little shady and the selection isn't
perfect, but most of the major labels are there, and I'm
sure more will come on board when they realize there is
money to be made. I think a lot of artists (I mean, true
artists) will lobby to get their stuff on there because it's a
win-win for their fans and them.
They don't have a large selection of rare or live stuff, but
they do have an "Exclusive" section for odd stuff. I just
downloaded/bought a live version of Jack Johnson's "The
Horizon Has Been Defeated" that sounds AWESOME.
If you are a serious music buff and you aren't drooling
over the mac/ipod/itunes set-up, you're crazy.
Yeah, the stuff costs more but with a 3% market share,
it's hard to lower prices...so, buy! Then the price will come
down.

Well, I'll take the "slowness" of Kazaa, and download for free.
Burning it to a CD only costs like 15 or 20 cents.

Well, it's mostly popular labums right now, but I think smaller labels will try and hook in. Plus, a larger percentage of the money goes to the artists, because there is lower cost on materials and distribution.
And the Exclusives section leaves something to be desired. It tends to be one live or acoustic track, as opposed to an exclusive song or something really desirable.

If you think about it, to get a whole album on Kazaa it's
gonna take you a half-hour (at the minimum) or so to find
the tracks, re-download crappy tracks, compile them all,
and burn it...
I don't know about you, but a half-hour of my time is
worth more than 10 bucks...and I can drink 2 pints in that
time...
