Turn on 92.3 K-Crock and its the same shit. All these new bands coming out, look the same, sound the same and none of their songs have any uniqueness to them.

I know music changes with the time, but alot of
people who listen to hard rock/metal will listen to Hendrix and Zeppelin.

I grew up in the 80's listening to Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth just to name a few and when the 90's came along and grunge put an end to glam rock and hair metal, I took a liking to Pearl Jam, Nirvana , Alice In Chains etc. Rock music lost me around 97-98 when the whole rap/rock format came into existance and it hasnt gotten any better. Now there are bands like good charlotte and simple plan which all sound the same and are crap on the radio.

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

Are you kidding me GOOD CHERLOTTE IS DA BOMBZZZ YO. LOL!!!11!!!!

Just look at the lyrics in rock music today:

Lifestyles of the rich and the famous
They're always complainin'
Always complainin'...
If money is such a problem
Well they've got mansions
Think we should rob them

And back then:

My mother was a witch, she was burned alive.
Thankless little bitch, for the tears I cried.
Take her down now, don't want to see her face
All blistered and burnt, can't hide my disgrace.

Twenty-seven, everyone was nice.
Gotta see 'em make 'em pay the price.
See their bodies out on the ice.
Take my time.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man, yes I am.

The early 90's were a fluke in that pretty much across the board (Techno, rock, alternative, hip-hop) you could just turn on the radio or MTV and see/hear something GOOD. It was a 3-4 year "golden" age, and I doubt we'll have one for a while.

That being said, rock kicks ass these days. Sure, the shit on the radio and TV is mostly just that...shit. But after the "dark" period of the latter half of the 90's, you can find GREAT music just under the shiny, sucky surface of pretty much all of the genres out there. I'm buying more CD's now than I was 5 years ago...

Im so sick and tired of all these pop punk bands. and their songs about girls and relationships. Their worse than all those shitty rap/metal bands. When are the real metal bands going to return to the airways? i the record industry is spitting on our minds with the crap that they make us listen to.

The early 90's had the labels lookig for something to replace popular music at the time, knowing it was on the decline. Once Nirvana hit, quickly followed by Pearl Jam, et al. At about that time, the federal laws regarding radio ownership changed, allowing megacorporations and syndication to homogenize radio.

I don't have time to look for it. I'm a terribly busy man. It should come to ME.

And I would have to say that pop-punk is NOT as bad as rap-metal. At least every now and then a pop-punk band will have roughly one song which I think is somewhat decent. Can't say the same for Limp Bizkit / Korn / etc.

It is really hard to find good underground bands. The music on the radio seems to define what is out there. When WSOU was around in NY you got to hear great new music. Now if you are stuck going to work and school and can't get out to the bars or clubs the only music out there is shit. I can't even get their names straight because they are all the same. I do know a lot of them start with The. Music sucks. I'm going to listen to some Sabbath. If you can't go forward with music at least you can go back.

I am, and always will be,in a state of sulky dissatisfaction.

There a lot of bands with front men trying to sound like Eddie Vedder.

It is really hard to find good underground bands.

No it's not.

Read decent music magazines like CMJ, Wire, Magnet, Select, URB or Q, all of which either provide free CD samplers each month with the best "new" under the radar music, or suggest bands similar to the ones that they review, so you have an idea of what to go from wherever you start. Or listen to internet radio. There's literally hundreds of thousands of online stations out there, odds are there's at least a couple that will cater EXACTLY to the kind of music you're looking for. There's absolutely no excuse for having a "there's no good music ANYWHERE" attitude unless you're simply a fat, lazy cunt. Suck it up, deeks.

Thanks for listing these mags for me. Some I have never come across. Now I will definitely keep an eye out for them.
As for internet radio I am still searching. I cannot believe how many stations there are. It is amazing!

Cunt? Maybe. Fat? I prefer to think of myself as fluffy. Lazy? Never.

hmm, mojo seems to have said it best. if you take just a small amount of interest in finding good music, it's not very hard to find at all. and, if you have no interest in finding it, then don't complain about the shit that's on the radio.

there is some amazing music out there now, you just have to know where to look for it. the magazines mojo mentioned are some of the best places to look. once you find a few bands that you like, it gets easier to find more. sometimes going by record label, if you can get out to shows and see opening bands, things like that. some of the best stuff in some of those magazines (and i'd also add "alternative press", which is good if a little more mainstream than some of the others... also "uncut", which includes a cd) is that they'll introduce you to new bands and tell you who else they resemble.

How about:
Luna
The Strokes
Wilco
Pete Yorn
Neutral Milk Hotel
Radiohead
Weezer
The Greenhornes
The eels
etc.

There's good music out there, by great bands, you just won't find them posing "cool" like a lot of douche-rock bands on MTV. I suggest you use your computer to find some music. I also suggest you have a sandwich. Preferably a turkey sandwich with sweet and hot peppers on it. That's right! Sweet AND hot!!! Peppers, I mean!!!! Muahahahaha!

I browse page by page through mp3.com and I find one or two songs that I like from completely unknown bands. Maybe one day, I will finish the pages, only to start all over again...

lets face it. NY radio sux. they dont have formats anymore. M&M cant be on z100, kr0k, WGAYNEW, Wplj, Hot 97, and 105.1 at the same time. Krok is the bigest loser of the bunch. they say they have offsrping, greenday, stained, linkin park, metallica, and a 100 other decent bands but all they play is m&m and the same 8 fagit songs again and again. and if your luckyenof to catcha decent band they play their gayest song. like Nirvana only gets shit from the live album, green day only gets playted off of nimrod, and it gets progessivly worst form there. why cant they play good music. who picks these fukin songs, i know im not and anyone with 1/2 a fukin brain isnt. obviously a suit from the 70s is piking the gayest shit he can find and making the djs play it.

I've gotten so frustrated with music as of late, I've completely switched sides (well, crossed the ocean) and now look to Japan to fulfill my musical needs. I somehow find it more enjoyable to listen to music if I don't really know what they're saying.
