Ron pointed out, anytime you see news on how a bunch of Mexicans or Hatians are caught trying to sneak into the country, the mood seems to be, "whew, glad we caught THEM!" But if we get wind of a bunch of "poor" Cubans trying to beat the Coast Guard by doggpaddling ashore, it's, "awwww, look at that. It's so terrible!" Some people seem to even WANT them to make it to the country! What's with the double standard? Why are THOSE illegal immigrants "better" than the other ones? Sure, I'll bet some of Cubans will become legalized, but I have no doubt just as many, if not more, will slip in and just get "lost" in the country...is it really just because they escaped the commies? It can't just be that they had to take those shitty boats and swim...Hatians have to do the same damn thing!

O.K. here is my theory the reason we let some boat people in & want to keep others out is it depends on what drugs they r transporting into the country. Why do u think that we never hear of Columbians sneaking into the country? Cause they just mossie on along with keys & keys of coke in there carry on & lots more in their suitcase. Cubans are accepted because political points can be gained by taking them in. Haitians, though suffering far worse conditions than Cubans offer no such political points. In fact, the political situation there is a complete indictment of U.S. foreign policy. We over through their democratically elected President, and supported Duvalier's genocide for years.

You are supposed to think the U.S. cares about oppressed people's, and the examples of U.S. support for the oppressors in Haiti and elsewhere don't lead you to the conclusion you're supposed to have.

Because the Cuban-Americans in South Florida have been doing a better job of spinning that these people are risking their lives to flee a tyrannical regime. Remember how Elian Gonzalez's mother was practically sanctified for risking her life to bring him to America?
